Did you know that regional Australians are 17% more likely to suffer a stroke than those in metropolitan areas?

This National Stroke Week we want you to know that you don’t need a cape to be a hero 🦹‍♀️– you just need to know how to recognise the signs of stroke. Knowing the F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech and Time) signs means you can act quickly when every second counts.

The F.A.S.T. test is simple:
🙍‍♀️FACE: Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?
💪 ARMS: Can they lift both arms?
👄SPEECH: Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?
⏱️ TIME IS CRITICAL: If you see any of these signs call 000 (triple zero) immediately.

Did you know that in Australia, your family is always asked to agree to donation?

Registration is important, but so is telling your family. Most families agree to donation when they know you want to be a donor.

This DonateLife Week, start a conversation about organ and tissue donation.

And don’t forget to take a minute to register as an organ and tissue donor at https://www.donatelife.gov.au/

❤️ This DonateLife Week, Grampians Health Nurse Donation Specialist Naomi Moore is encouraging community members to register as organ and tissue donors and have an important conversation with their loved ones.

After more than 25 years working in Ballarat Base Hospital's Intensive Care Unit, Naomi has seen the life-changing impact donation can have for recipients, as well as the comfort it can bring donor families during an incredibly difficult time.

While 4 in 5 Australians support organ and tissue donation, only 1 in 3 are registered. Family support is essential, which is why sharing your donation decision is just as important as registering.

🎶What a wonderful afternoon!🎶

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Stawell Hospital Auxiliary's Pleasant Afternoon of Music on Sunday.

The Stawell Senior Citizens Hall was filled with great music, friendly conversation and community spirit as local favourites The Accidental High Notes entertained guests, followed by a delicious afternoon tea.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, the event raised more than $1,300 to support patient care and services at our hospital.

A heartfelt thank you to The Accidental High Notes for generously sharing their talent, the dedicated Stawell Hospital Auxiliary volunteers for organising the event, and everyone who attended, donated and contributed to the afternoon's success.

Your support continues to make a real difference to local healthcare. 💙

The surgical team at Grampians Health Stawell now have greater flexibility to support patients requiring respiratory assistance during surgery and recovery, following the purchase of a second Optiflow High-Flow system.

A $70,000 donation from the Stawell Hospital Foundation covered several new items including the purchase of the additional respiratory system so both operating theatres now have access to the equipment when required, supporting the delivery of safe, efficient and high-quality patient care.

Stawell Perioperative Nurse Unit Manager Sally Hamilton said the new equipment was an important addition to the Operating Suite.

Every day, 2 million Australians live with diabetes, managing something most people never fully see.

As this year’s National Diabetes Week (12–18 July) comes to a close, we embrace the week’s theme of ‘Living Out Loud’ - a campaign inviting people living with diabetes, their carers, researchers, health professionals, and clinicians to say out loud and without apology the one thing they’ve always wished people knew.

Our Diabetes team at Grampians Health – some of the team are pictured here – would like people to know that ‘diabetes care is a team effort’.

Our diabetes educators, endocrinologists and administration staff work closely with GPs, paediatricians, nurses, midwives, dietitians, pharmacists, podiatrists and all other allied health professionals to provide diabetes support for our region.

Our role is to empower people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed decisions every day.
