A reminder that arthritis doesn’t always “look” a certain way.

Many people live with symptoms that aren’t visible to others, including pain, fatigue, stiffness, and swelling. Support and understanding from loved ones can make a meaningful difference.

The most accurate test is examining joint fluid under a microscope to look for urate crystals. Blood tests, medical history, and a physical examination also play an important role in confirming the diagnosis and ruling out other conditions.

If you’re experiencing sudden joint pain, swelling, or redness, it’s important to speak with your GP about the next steps.

Living with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): What to Expect

With early diagnosis and the right treatment, most people with RA can live full, active lives. While the condition varies from person to person, many experience “flares” — periods of inflammation and pain — followed by times of little or no inflammation.

RA can cause permanent joint damage, especially in the early years, but the good news is that early treatment has been shown to reduce this risk.

A rheumatologist can help with diagnosis and management of RA. That's what we're here for.
