Your favourite shoes might still feel comfortable, but that doesn’t always mean they’re providing the support they once did. 👟

Over time, cushioning can flatten, soles can wear unevenly and the structure of a shoe can break down. These changes can affect how your foot interacts with the ground and how your body handles everyday movement.

The invisible killer is the foam. Your tread might look as good as the day you got it but the foam could still have compressed by the point of no return. The shoe you loved on day one won't be the same on day one hundred.

Look out for uneven sole wear, reduced cushioning, visible breakdown or changes in how your feet feel in your shoes.

If your shoes are starting to show their age, bring them along to your next appointment. We can take a look at how they’re wearing and whether they’re still providing the support your feet need.

Achilles pain can be frustrating, especially when it starts affecting your ability to do the things you love doing.

Achilles tendinopathy often develops when the tendon is exposed to more load than it can currently handle. Changes in training, activity levels, footwear, recovery or calf strength can all play a role.

Management is about gradually building the tendon’s capacity rather than simply resting and waiting for the pain to disappear.

If you’re experiencing ongoing Achilles pain, we can assess your foot mechanics, activity demands and contributing factors to help guide your recovery.

A good walking shoe should feel comfortable, secure and supportive from the first step.

Look for a shoe that gives your toes enough room, provides appropriate cushioning, has a stable base and allows your foot to move naturally.

There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to footwear. The right choice depends on your foot shape, walking habits and individual needs.

If you need help choosing the right footwear, we can assess your gait, foot shape and activity needs to help you find the right shoe for you.

Even well-made shoes and orthotics wear over time. As your footwear loses support and your feet change with age, activity, or injury, they may no longer provide the same level of comfort and function.

Regular reviews allow your podiatrist to assess the condition of your footwear and orthotics, ensure they're still meeting your needs, and make adjustments where needed to help you get the maximum benefit from your treatment.

Great session catching up with the team at The Running Centre! 🏃‍♂️👟

It’s always valuable to dive into the latest in footwear technology and see firsthand how TRC puts shoes through their paces by getting patients running on the in-store treadmill to make sure it's right for them. Unpacking emerging footwear trends and discussing where design is heading helps us fine-tune our clinical advice so our patients always leave with the most up-to-date recommendations.

A fantastic partnership that continues to evolve just like the shoes themselves. Thanks to the team for having us and letting us pick your brains!

Lovely to have international speed sensation Nahid Rana in the clinic for a tune-up during the week.

Nahid is a fast bowler from the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, who take on the Aussies next week in Darwin. Nahid and his physio spent time with Darryn in the clinic last week.

Collaboration crossing borders creates even greater outcomes. It was a pleasure for PEAK to have been invited to be involved and be part of the team behind the teams. 💚

Knee pain isn't always worse because of the cold itself. While many people notice more discomfort during winter, the weather often makes existing issues more noticeable rather than causing the pain.

Some possible reasons include:
▸ Stiffer muscles and joints
▸ Reduced flexibility from colder temperatures
▸ Changes in barometric pressure
▸ Less physical activity during winter
▸ Underlying conditions such as osteoarthritis or previous injuries

How your knee feels, when the discomfort starts, and what movements trigger it can help pinpoint what's really going on. That's why understanding the underlying cause is the key to choosing the right treatment.

Tight calves?

Try these simple stretches to help improve flexibility and reduce muscle tension.

For best results:
✔️ Hold each stretch for 30–60 seconds
✔️ Repeat 2–3 times
✔️ Stretch both the straight-leg and bent-knee positions

Save this post for quick calf stretches whenever you need them.

If your calves are constantly tight despite stretching, it may be a sign of limited ankle mobility, poor foot mechanics, or another underlying issue that should be assessed.

Heel pain isn't always caused by plantar fasciitis. While it's one of the most well-known conditions, there are several other reasons your heel may be hurting.

Some possible causes include:
▸ Achilles tendinopathy
▸ Heel fat pad syndrome
▸ Heel bursitis
▸ Stress fractures
▸ Nerve irritation

The location of your pain, when it occurs, and what activities make it worse can all provide important clues about the underlying cause.

That's why getting the right diagnosis is important, because different conditions require different treatment approaches.
