+ MY PROLAPSE JOURNEY +
When I received the news I had a prolapse and I wasn’t able to do heavy weights, squats and high intense exercise…
I was shattered!
As a trainer who needed my pelvic floor to function properly for my job, I was so disheartened.
For 9 months I was angry at my body, angry at the world, scared to do things in case I made my symptoms worse.
But through perseverance and whole lot of patience, I did my rehab work, I strengthened from the inside out, I (very) slowly introduced more load - my whole 1st year postpartum with Jaida I don’t think I squatted more than 2kg’s!
💪I slowly started to feel more confident. I added extra load and waited to see how I felt the next day.
I was fine.
I extended my walks for longer hoping for no heaviness.
I was ok.
I started teaching fitness classes again - symptomatic free.
Then I found out I was pregnant with Kayce at 12 months PP, just as I was feeling extra confident in my pelvic floor 🙃 But I was determined it wasn’t going to send me too far backwards!
I worked alongside a pelvic health physio and maintained as much strength, mobility + core / pelvic floor connection I could throughout my pregnancy.
In the 4th trimester, I rested & I did my rehab work.
By 16 weeks postpartum, I had the all clear to JUMP and I was feeling the strongest I have ever felt!
I have reached my heaviest PB’s with squats + deadlifts. I am back jumping and can do box jumps with no symptoms and I am back playing my beloved netball and swinging off a pole - no symptoms!
BUT… I still have to modify.
Some days I can’t jump.
If it’s the first day of my period, I feel heavy all day!
I prioritise being horizontal and resting as much as I can.
I still have to continue to work on my pelvic floor.
Having a prolapse is a rollercoaster of a journey! But if you have been diagnosed with one and have been told you can NEVER lift heavy weights or jump ever again - with patience, perseverance + a whole lot of listening to your body, you can feel the strongest you’ve ever felt and get back to the exercises you love 💕 Safe Pre & Postnatal Exercise for Mums
