During perimenopause and menopause it is common to notice fat distribution changes in our bodies. Weight around our midsection is more apparent and uncomfortable, but that’s not all. Weight around our torso also means that there is a rise in visceral fat (fat around our organs) which leads to health issues.

This is one of the topics we look at during our weekend retreat in July.

As a take home piece of information for now, research has found the fluctuations of hormones and the increase in cortisol (stress hormone) often leads to, lack of sleep, decreased metabolism and increased weight gain.

Studies have found Yoga to be such a beneficial practice to address mind-body health, reducing stress and improving sleep.

Our Winter Timetable is here ❄️

I don’t know about you, but winter and especially the colder days, can definitely affect the way my body moves.

I wake up feeling a little less mobile and if I sit for too long (which is easy to do in winter!) it takes a a bit longer to get moving freely in my joints. And definitely the reason I continue to motivate myself to keep moving…. And I feel so much better for it πŸ™Œ
Which is why I am encouraging you to keep moving this winter. We have the heater on low for those extra cool mornings and evenings just to take the chill out of the room.

When you move through yoga and Pilates you feel soooo much better for it.
Take a look at the classes and see which ones might suit you, schedule it in like an appointment for yourself, book your class and come on in πŸ™

Improve energy
Improve sleep quality
Feel more mobility
Reduce stress and S.A.D. Symptoms
Less creaky πŸ˜‰ (or is that just me)

Hip Mobility

Here are a few of my regular hip mobility exercises that I do (and encourage) which assist the range of movement in my legs.

I absolutely believe this is how I have continued to recover well after those long run sessions and still be able to keep my flexibility.

These exercises can be helpful to release tension and tightness in the muscles around the hips and lower back.

There are so many benefits to a mobility training program!

If you do a lot of sitting at work or at home.. give these a try and see how you feel afterwards.

Move in the range that feels good for you - forcing past a point of resistance is not the aim here.
