🔍 Did You Know? Period pain isn't something you just have to live with. Please share with all the women in your lives as it may provide an answer.

Many women are told that painful, heavy, or irregular periods are simply "normal." But what if the answer lies in something as measurable as the fat composition of your blood?

Omega-3 fatty acids — specifically EPA and DHA — are essential fats the body cannot produce on its own. They are known to support a healthy inflammatory response in the body (Harris & Von Schacky, 2004, Preventive Medicine). When omega-3 levels are low relative to omega-6, the body's ability to regulate inflammation at a cellular level may be compromised.

Research suggests that the average Western diet tends toward a high omega-6 to omega-3 ratio — often reaching 15:1 or higher — which may contribute to chronic inflammation over time (Simopoulos, 2002, Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy). Many practitioners consider a ratio below 3:1 to be a more optimal target. This imbalance is common — and most people don't even know it exists in their own body.

Worth noting: the omega-6:omega-3 ratio is an independent marker of inflammatory load. Even if your absolute omega-3 levels appear reasonable, a high ratio can still signal an imbalance that warrants attention.
The Omega-3 Index Test measures the percentage of EPA and DHA in your red blood cell membranes. An optimal omega-3 index is generally considered to be 8% or above (Harris & Von Schacky, 2004, Preventive Medicine). Most Australians fall well below this.

This isn't about guessing or taking supplements blindly. It's about understanding what's actually happening in your body — and making informed decisions based on real data.

💬 When did you last have your omega-3s tested? If the answer is "never," it might be time.

Your body is always communicating with you. 💚

Some days you feel overwhelmed.
Some days you have no energy.

Whether that’s taking a deep breath, drinking a glass of water, getting outside for some fresh air, or simply giving yourself permission to slow down, small actions can make a meaningful difference.

If you’re looking for additional support, our experienced team can discuss your symptoms, assess your individual needs and determine whether IV therapy may be appropriate as part of your personalised care plan.

Here's a Health Bombshell Most People Get Wrong About Acid Reflux 🔥

Most cases of acid reflux, heartburn, and indigestion are NOT caused by too much stomach acid — they may actually be caused by a lack of properly acidic stomach acid.

Your stomach needs to be highly acidic to:
✅ Break down protein effectively
✅ Kill harmful microbes
✅ Absorb vital minerals like magnesium, zinc, and iron

When stomach acid isn't acidic enough, it can't do its job — and a cascade of digestive issues can follow.

So what can you do to support healthy digestion naturally? Here are some simple, evidence-informed suggestions to explore with your healthcare provider:

🍋 Warm lemon water before meals — A squeeze of fresh lemon in warm water before eating may help stimulate digestive juices

🥒 Apple cider vinegar (diluted) — A teaspoon in water before meals is a popular option some people find supportive — always dilute and discuss with your practitioner first

🌿 Digestive bitters — Herbal bitters taken before meals have traditionally been used to stimulate stomach acid production

🥗 Slow down and chew thoroughly — Digestion begins in the mouth; rushing meals can compromise the entire digestive process

💧 Stay hydrated between meals — Drinking large amounts of water during meals may dilute stomach acid

🧘 Manage stress — The gut-brain connection is real; chronic stress can significantly impact digestive function

🌱 Consider a practitioner-guided gut health review — Nutrient deficiencies like magnesium, B12, and zinc are commonly associated with long-term digestive imbalance

⚠️ Mainstream medications like antacids and PPIs are designed for short-term use. Many labels advise against use beyond a few weeks, yet many people take them for years. Long-term use has been associated with magnesium deficiency, bone health concerns, and kidney issues. Always speak with your healthcare professional before making any changes to your medication.

Did you catch 4 Corners this week? 👀

ABC’s “Duped: Food Exposed” just dropped some eye-opening findings on food fraud in Australia — and it’s costing us $3 billion a year.

A few standouts:
🍅 25% of tomato products (yes, including big-name brands) weren’t grown where the label claims
🌿 Over a quarter of turmeric brands tested were adulterated — some with iron oxide, some with lead
🍯 Much of our “honey” is cut with sugar syrup
🥚 Some “cage-free” eggs weren’t
🦐 A third of prawns failed origin testing

With 66% of what’s on our supermarket shelves classed as ultra-processed, labels alone often can’t be trusted.

Our take: the simplest defence is still the best one — eat fresh, whole foods, cook from scratch where you can, and keep processed and packaged products to a minimum.

Worth a watch if you want the full picture — free on ABC iView 🎥

Still dealing with fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, digestive issues, skin flare-ups, or chronic inflammation — even though you’re doing “everything right”?

You’re not alone, and a diagnosis like Hashimoto’s, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or psoriasis explains what you’re dealing with — but it doesn’t always explain what’s still driving it.

Some of the most common underlying contributors we see include:

• gut dysfunction and leaky gut
• microbiome imbalance
• blood sugar instability
• nutrient deficiencies
• stress and cortisol dysregulation
• food sensitivities
• environmental triggers

When these imbalances go unaddressed, the immune system can stay switched on — which is often why symptoms feel like they’re on repeat, no matter what you try.

At IV Health Sunshine Coast, our approach isn’t just about calming flare-ups. It’s about identifying what’s keeping your system activated in the first place, so your body has a genuine chance to recalibrate.

Want to explore what might be driving your symptoms? Get in touch — we’d love to help you dig deeper.
