Today we did a session that looked a little different. The kiddo wasn’t in clinic today, but his big sisters were!
One little guy has started learning some words from watching TV shows and videos, so we decided to use that strength to support his language goals.
His amazing big sisters spent part of their school holidays helping create personalised videos featuring his favourite toys, activities and daily routines. These videos will be going into his personalised YouTube channel so he can watch all his favourites over and over again (and hopefully learn even MORE new words).
Video modelling is an evidence-based strategy that uses short, engaging videos to demonstrate a target skill. Watching the same model repeatedly can help children build confidence, learn new vocabulary, follow routines and develop play and communication skills.
The best part? When videos are personalised with familiar people, favourite toys and meaningful activities, they’re often even more motivating and engaging.
A huge shout-out to Miss A, this incredible big sister for not only being in every video and dealing with my terrible directing skills, but also having great ideas to add to support her brother. She has even now decided her future career path: speech pathologist! 💭👩🎓
Also a shout out to Miss O who was happy to give up the spotlight and preferred to keep us fuelled with (pretend) ice-cream for the shoot. 🍦
