As both a Birth Worker and a Somatic Sexologist, I have come to see and believe that the root chakra is less about survival and more about relationship. Relationship to life and the body. The root chakra shapes our relationship with our body, our sexuality, our babies, our partnerships, our businesses, our sense of belonging, and life itself.
Every labour, every act of intimacy, every conception journey eventually arrives at the same threshold: Trust. Not blind faith kind of trust. Embodied trust. The kind that emerges when we learn to remain present in uncertainty rather than trying to control it.
It can feel HEEEAAAVVVVYYY as we learn to embody this. Sometimes we need to experience sustained grief and dissatisfaction, as a teacher and an invitation to embody trust and learn to trust ourselves in times of uncertainty. HELLO 2026 - anyone else?
In the birthing room, I have witnessed and supported women discover this ancient wisdom that exists beyond thinking. In conversations around intimacy, I have witnessed people reconnect with parts of themselves they thought were lost. Reconnect with relationships and intimacy after childbirth they thought were lost.
And in the stories of spirit babies, I am often reminded that creation begins long before a child enters the world. The root chakra teaches us that before we can create, receive, surrender, birth, or love, we must first answer a deeper question: Is it safe to be here?
Answering “Yes” is the transformation piece. A long, strange, surprising, polarising journey…. Bring snacks!!
