Small tweaks for an easier home. Four simple changes to your environment that do the heavy lifting, so you don’t have to rely on willpower.
1. One towel pattern per person. Give everyone in the house their own pattern or colour. No more mystery towels on the bathroom floor, and no more “whose is this?” The visual cue does the remembering for everyone.
2. Put things where behaviour already happens. My pug kept settling into this exact spot by the curtains, and they were getting pug prints all over them. So I put a comfy bed right there. She loves it. Maybe it was simply the perfect patch of light. Same idea at home: put the hamper where the clothes already land on the floor.
3. Give work its own phone space. A dual SIM, or two phones with a smaller, more streamlined one just for work. Whichever suits you best. When work has its own home, it becomes so much easier to put it down.
4. A walk bag ready on the door. Leads, poo bags and treats, packed and hanging by the front door. Every extra step is a small barrier to action. Fewer barriers, more walks. Getting the doggos out is the goal.
Make the easy thing the obvious thing. Our environment shapes behaviour far more than willpower ever will. Behaviour is communication, and sometimes it’s simply telling us where things need to be.
