It’s been beautifully warm all week… and today the rain arrived! . 🌧️⚡

I’m running the 10km event at the Sunshine Coast Marathon, and it looks like it will be through rain and storms.

But I’ll take note of Bob Marley’s advice:

“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.”

We can’t always choose the conditions.

But we can choose how we meet them.

And remember that sometimes the best memories are made when things don’t go according to plan.

Wish me luck! 🏃‍♀️🌧️✨

A client said this to me last week, and it’s a phrase I often here:

‘I just want my brain to be quiet.

Just…

Quiet.

Sometimes peace becomes the most valuable thing we own

Not money, material things or success 🙏🏻

As I hover over the “Enter Now” button, I’m laughing at myself.

Why am I hovering instead of just pressing it? 😂

The truth is, part of me wants certainty.

Not about whether I can run 10km—I know I can. I recently ran a hilly 10km.

It’s more subtle than that.

Is it worth the $130?

Is it worth entering “just” the 10km when I’ve previously run the half marathon and the full marathon?

And then the ego quietly whispers…

“You’re much slower these days.” 🏃‍♀️😮

Isn’t it fascinating how our minds work?

We weigh up the pros and cons, searching for certainty before we’re willing to take the next step.

But certainty is something life rarely gives us.

Our brains love what’s familiar.

That’s why people stay:
• Too long in relationships.
• Too long in jobs.
• Too long believing old stories about themselves.

The familiar feels safe.

Growth usually begins the moment we’re willing to feel a little uncomfortable.

So no, I don’t know what next week will bring. The last time I ran the Sunshine Coast Marathon I had a streaming cold!

But I do know this…

I’m still here.

I’m still running.

And I’m pressing the button. ☑️😜

Because sometimes the biggest victory isn’t the finish time.

It’s refusing to let fear make the decision.

What button have you been hovering over lately, waiting for certainty before you press it?

👊

Sometimes we’re not exhausted because today was difficult.

We’re exhausted because we’re carrying:

Old conversations.

Old disappointments.

Old guilt.

Old expectations.

Old versions of ourselves.

Imagine hiking with a backpack.

Every painful experience…

Every criticism…

Every fear…

You quietly place another stone inside.

Eventually you believe life is heavy.

Perhaps it isn’t life.

Perhaps it’s the backpack.

And perhaps today is a good day to ask:

What can I finally put down?

What’s one thing you’re ready to stop carrying?

I’m 67. I’m not winding down.

I’m booking flights.

Building a business.

Travelling between countries.

Writing.

Running.

Learning.

Changing my mind.

Starting again.

And occasionally wondering what on earth I’m doing. 😂

There is a strange story society tells us about ageing.

That eventually we should become smaller.

Safer.

Quieter.

More sensible.

I’m not convinced.

Perhaps there comes a point when we finally realise we don’t need permission.

To change.

To leave.

To begin.

To travel.

To create.

To become someone new.

You are not too old to rewrite the next chapter.

And I intend to keep proving it. 💜

💜 If this post spoke to you, save it for the days you need reminding… and share it with someone who might need it too.

And if you’re ready to rewrite your next chapter, I’d love to help.

Maybe nobody knows you’re struggling.

You still show up.

You work.

You smile.

You answer messages.

You take care of other people.

From the outside, you look fine.

But inside?

Your mind is exhausting you.

Overthinking.

Replaying.

Predicting.

Questioning.

Trying to solve tomorrow before it arrives.

Sometimes the people who appear to be coping best are carrying the most noise internally.

You don’t have to wait until everything falls apart before asking for support.

Sometimes you’re allowed to simply say:

“I don’t want to keep feeling like this.”

That is enough of a reason to begin. 💜

One of the greatest privileges of my work is being trusted with the stories people rarely tell anyone else.

Behind anxiety, addiction, anger, perfectionism or feeling “stuck,” there is usually a human being who has been doing their best to navigate life with the resources available to them.

I’ve worked in mental health since my psychiatric nurse training in the early 1980s. (Check out the photo, as a young nurse, just attaching my fob watch🤗)

And after all these years, one thing has never changed:

I remain fascinated by people.

Not labels.

Not diagnoses.

People.

Their resilience.

Their contradictions.

Their humour.

Their capacity to change.

I never know exactly where a session will go.

And I think that’s part of the beauty of the work. 💜
