Mpower Health is my gift, my purpose, my brand and 'me' to give to you. So expect to see some raw, honest and sometime brutal (cruel to be kind ) advice. But most of all I'm hoping to cut the crap on all the overwhelming, conflicting health and wellness info out there. This page has been born based on my life experiences and gel that together with my nerdy 7 years at Uni and I hope to share some

golden nuggets that I've noticed to be missing in private practice. So you'll get the professional Osteo but also the quirky Fiona at times

We’ve always made a conscious effort to let our kids be children for as long as possible.

Yet somehow, before they’ve even finished primary school, we’ve found ourselves creating a business together and having them “adulting” a little earlier than most 🤪

In February last year, we decided to create a school project and it made sense to choose something the girls were interested in.

As a mum, I never really loved a lot of the activewear options available for girls. Fast forward a few years and the girls found themselves saying exactly the same thing.

So rather than waiting for something different, we decided to create it 🤩

Over the past 12 months, they’ve discovered why maths, percentages, communication, design, budgeting, and problem solving actually matter when applied to real life.

It’s been so much fun watching them design every detail from scratch.

Just quietly, there have been plenty of moments of excitement and a few moments of panic 🤪 and deep down, I suspect I’m probably going to learn more from this than the girls 🤣

Time will tell whether we’ve created a business or an expensive homeschool lesson… or both 😂

So ta-da… the girls have quite literally designed their own clothing brand 🤩
More specifically, activewear 👚

📚 We’ve never really shared much about our homeschooling journey.
Mostly because choosing a different path often felt awkward to explain, and other times I just didn’t want to feel like we had to explain ourselves 🫠

For years, I probably softened the reasoning behind it.
Travel.
COVID.
Life circumstances of living in a caravan.

And while those things played a role, truthfully this path had been in our hearts long before that.
Vanlife just helped justify it 😉

Not because we think it’s perfect.
Not because we think it’s “better.”
And definitely not because we think we know everything 😅

But because we wanted more time.
More freedom.
More connection.
More real life.

And despite occasionally wondering if we’ve completely stuffed up their lives 😂 we also wouldn’t change it for the world ❤️

The hardest part has probably been not getting caught up in comparison, and learning to trust that kids don’t all need to learn in the exact same way or at the exact same time.

Sometimes it’s hard not to crave the structure and satisfaction of ticking boxes and completing curriculum.

But the girls don’t really know any different. They don’t get grades because, to us, they either know it or they don’t.
The motivation has always been learning the skill so they can use it in the real world, not learning for a mark on a page.

It’s also been pretty entertaining at times 😆
Watching some parents quietly assess just how hippy we are before deciding whether to engage 😂

Ah well…their loss, not ours 😝

After nearly 7 years, it finally feels easier to talk about, and the girls have definitely learnt how to own it as well 😉

At the start of last year, we wanted to shift how the girls were learning through homeschooling. Less focus on bookwork and more on applying concepts to real life, so we started a project… aka a business 🙊

What started small has naturally grown into something bigger along the way, and if you know me well, you’d know “small” was never going to stay small 😆

Over the past 12 months, this little idea has turned into something we’re really excited about, and we’re nearly at a point where we can share it with you and show you what the girls have been up to.

We’re not quite there yet, but for those interested, you’re welcome to come along with us as we head towards launch.

Just for fun… can anyone guess what it is?
(And if you already know, no spoilers 😉)

Feeling a little warm and fuzzy about this one 🥰

I wore the VIC uniform 30 years ago 😳
Now I get to watch my daughter do the same but for QLD 🥹

When I was younger, I represented VIC in this same comp (back when it was only for U13).
Now it includes U12 and Maddie has just been named to represent QLD at Nationals 🤩

She earned her spot at State last weekend:
2 x🥇, 2 x🥈 and a 4th.

She’ll compete in the 100m, 200m, 80m hurdles, long jump & 4x100m relay. (I did the 200m, long jump, triple jump, high jump & relay 🥹)

Nationals are in 3 weeks in Brisbane, and we’re going in with no expectations.
Just encouraging her to soak up the experience 😍

🌪️ February/March 🌪️ is quickly becoming our ‘hold on tight everything is happening at once’ month 🤪
It’s a big one not only for Maddie but the whole fam!

Maddie competed at Little Athletics Regionals, qualified for State and happened to break a couple of regional records in the 100m & 80m Hurdles along the way.

She then competed at State Nippers where see became the QLD Champion of the beach sprints and flags and was apart of some pretty special relay moments (beating 2 boys on the finish line in the mixed relay was my highlight 😆).

In between all of that, she trialled for Sunny Coast rep netball, earned her spot and played her first carnival last weekend.

It’s been a full Summer season.
Full of effort, early mornings and sand literally everywhere.

More than anything, we’ve loved watching her grow through it. Learning how to handle injuries, nerves, pressure and big stages.

Sport 😍 also one of the biggest teachers in her homeschooling life 💗

Second week of Year 4 & Year 6…and our 7th year of homeschooling 😳
Captured in week two because I forgot on the first day 😆

Seven years in and I still have moments where I pinch myself.
This nerd never imagined parenting this way 😳
I sometimes wonder if we’re a little crazy for not choosing traditional school.

But then again…
I never thought I’d live in a caravan for three years either.
So maybe we’re just meant to take the path less travelled.
(And I do get a little cheeky joy from doing things that turn heads 🙊)

Our travels around Australia opened our eyes to the homeschool world, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

We’ve loved this time with our girls.
Teaching what we feel is essential.
Helping them see they each have gifts to share with the world, some discovered at school, and some beyond it 😉
Some gifts are meant to be monetised.
Others simply meant to contribute to the world.

This year Maddie heads into her final year of primary school, and we’re already being asked if we’re sending her to high school 🙈

When we started this journey, we thought we would.
Now…we’re not so sure.

This year we’re putting a little spin on their learning and I can’t wait to see how they grow 🤩

The year of…

- Meeting our Princess Za Za 🩷
- Lots of cheeky play with Moo
- A road trip up the East Coast, searching for our next chapter
- Selling our first home in Melbourne
- Celebrating the life of my beautiful Grandma
-Choosing to leave the red dirt of SA and head back to Mildura

💫 Looking back it was pretty pivotal year.
Every high and low has lead us to this very moment in time.
Six years today on the Sunny Coast and I’m pretty happy about it 🤩

Miss Maddie took out her second QLD Beach Series title last weekend 🏖️
Highest overall score across 3 comps.

Last year the wins came easier.
This year they were close and the challenges bigger.
Disqualifications.
Learning that flags can be brutal.
20–25 turns with zero room to be off with the fairies 😆😳

She’s a humble kid… but I still secretly welcome a few losses 🤫
That’s where the growth lives and where the drive comes from 😉

I asked, what can you learn from the losses and she said, it makes the wins even sweeter🥰

Trips to Noosa, Kurrawa and Burleigh Heads with her beachie friends were hands down the best part.
Finding supporting her old club and competing were icing on the cake.

🌿 Update for My Beautiful Patients

What’s one thing you can do with your kids that is simple, free and will give you valuable information about their health??

Sleep next to them 😴
My girls were great at waking through the night and sneaking into our bed. Turns out they weren’t trying to ruin my much needed beauty sleep, there was actually a reason behind it 🫣

Now, instead of frustration, I see it as an opportunity. A chance to check in on their sleep quality, because how they sleep can give a great insight into their health.

Things we often brush off as “cute” or “just being a kid” can actually be subtle clues that their sleep isn’t as restful as it could be. And let’s be honest mouth breathing as an adult isn’t as adorable 😆

😴 Restorative sleep looks peaceful, still, and quiet.
Lips closed & breathing through the nose.

The list below are some of the things I noticed in my own kids. Some I’d never paid attention to before and others I wouldn’t have noticed without sleeping next to them the whole night.
• Mouth breathing
• Snoring / noisy breathing
• Teeth grinding
• Sweating (damp hairline/pillow)
• Frequent waking or lots of tossing & turning
• Bedwetting past expected age
• Waking tired

A few other symptoms that are common but worth paying attention to:
• Bum in the air or strange sleep positions
• Drooling
• Dark circles under the eyes
• Waking with a dry mouth or sore throat

Next time you get the chance, sleep next to them or sneak in a few times through the night.
If you feel they’ll be worse with you in the bed then pop your phone (airplane mode) in their room and use a simple sleep recording app to record possible noises. (SnoreLab on iPhone, Snoreclock on android. Both are free).

Sometimes the smallest signs can tell us the biggest stories 💛
