What is guideline care?
Healthcare is constantly evolving.
The advice you receive today may be very different from what was recommended 20 or 30 years ago. As new research emerges, our understanding of health conditions and treatments continues to improve.
Clinical practice guidelines are developed by reviewing the best available evidence to help healthcare professionals provide care that reflects current research, not just tradition or opinion.
We've seen this across many areas of healthcare. Heart attack patients were once prescribed prolonged bed rest, whereas today cardiac rehabilitation and exercise are recognised as key parts of recovery. People with back pain were once commonly advised to have routine scans, avoid bending and lifting, or stay in bed until the pain settled. Today, for most people with non-specific low back pain, guidelines recommend that routine imaging isn't required, and that staying active and gradually returning to normal activities leads to better outcomes.
Change doesn't happen overnight, though. Research suggests it can take around 17 years for new evidence to become routine clinical practice.
At Nordica Health, we're committed to continually learning and aligning our care with current clinical guidelines, while recognising that every person's journey is unique.
Because good healthcare never stops learning.
