You got the positive pregnancy test… now what? 🤰🏼

Who you choose to care for you, the model of care you enter, the tests and screening you’re offered, and the education you receive can all shape how you experience pregnancy and birth.

In this episode of the Belly2Birth Podcast, I sit down with our resident midwife Nicole Garrett from Nicole Garratt Gold Coast Midwife to unpack the things we wish EVERY woman knew early in pregnancy.

We talk about choosing your model of care and caregiver, understanding your options around testing and screening, asking better questions, informed decision-making and why childbirth education matters.

Because you don’t have to simply follow the pregnancy conveyor belt you can understand your options and make informed choices that feel right for you. 🤎

Birth hurts… so let’s talk about it. 🔥

What if we stopped trying to convince women that birth shouldn’t hurt and instead taught them how to understand the pain, reframe it and work WITH it?

Pain in physiological birth doesn’t automatically mean danger.

It can have purpose.

In this episode, I’m talking honestly about what labour can feel like, why pain and suffering are NOT the same thing, and the tools that can help you move through the intensity rather than fear it.

Because preparing for birth isn’t about promising you a pain-free experience.

It’s about helping you feel informed, prepared and resourced for whatever birth brings.

This week on the Belly2Birth Podcast we talk about Postnatal Anxiety and Depression

Up to 1 in 5 women experience anxiety and/or depression during pregnancy or after having a baby. In Australia, around 1 in 6 women experience depression during the first postnatal year, and anxiety is also incredibly common. (PANDA)

These aren’t small numbers.

And this is exactly why conversations like the one I had with Lia matter so much.

Because becoming a mother can be beautiful AND it can completely shake your sense of who you are.

You can love your baby deeply and still feel disconnected.

You can be grateful and still feel overwhelmed.

You can look like you’re coping while internally thinking… “I don’t even know who I am anymore.”

We need to talk about this more.

As a Perinatal Coach, part of the work I do is supporting women through this enormous identity shift and helping them feel seen, heard and supported, giving them practical resources and strategies, and connecting them with additional professional care when that’s what they need.

You were never meant to navigate all of this alone.

If you’re in the postpartum period and you’re struggling with how you’re feeling, or you simply don’t feel like you anymore, I would love to talk with you.

“I loved my baby… but I didn’t feel connected to her.”

This is the side of motherhood we need to talk about more. 🤍

In this raw conversation, Lia opens up about her experience with postpartum depression and anxiety, the lack of connection she initially felt after her daughter’s birth, and the courage it took to recognise she needed support.

Not every mother feels that instant rush of connection we’re told we should feel.

And more women need to know they’re not alone in that experience.

🎧 Lia shares her full story on the Belly2Birth Podcast.

Two babies. Two VERY different births. And a motherhood journey we need to talk about. 🤎

In this week’s Belly2Birth Podcast, Lia shares the raw reality of her journey through an unplanned Caesarean, postpartum depression & anxiety, IVF, gestational diabetes… and ultimately, her beautiful empowering VBAC.

We talk about the parts of motherhood that aren’t always spoken about where Lia admits that she did not feel instantly connected to her baby, postpartum rage, asking for help, and what it meant to prepare differently for birth the second time around where they worked with me face to face.

And then there’s “Operation VBAC”… including a very dramatic trip to hospital! 😳

This episode is raw, vulnerable, empowering and SO important.
