Strength Testing for Basketball

IMTP - assessing lower body peak force
Hip Abduction/ Adduction - identifying any deficits in hip/ groin strength that may affect lateral movements and change of direction.

These metrics help us monitor physical qualities, identify right/left asymmetries and inform individualised training

Athlete Profiling

3 Key Metrics:
- Eccentric Utilisation Ratio indicates stretch shortening cycle efficiency
- Reactive Strength Index tells us how quickly an athlete reacts off the ground
- Dynamic Strength Index provides an insight into how well an athlete can use their strength in explosive movements

These metrics help us understand how the athlete produces force, allowing us to create individualised programs specific to the athlete’s needs.

In-Season Strength & Power Session for Swimming

Main Focus: max strength, rate of force development, hip flexion, anti-rotation and trunk stability

The reason your sprint times have stalled probably isn’t on the track.

Top speed is capped by physical qualities and technical competence.

The physical qualities: how stiff your calf-Achilles spring is, how fast you produce force under your own bodyweight, and your raw force ceiling at a sprint-specific joint angles.

If one of those is the limiter, more sprinting just rehearses it.

So we test before we program.

Calf isometric, countermovement jump, and isometric mid-thigh pull, then your Dynamic Strength Index: the ratio of jump force to max force. That one number tells us whether to build more strength or get you better at expressing the strength you already have.

It’s the difference between a training block that moves your sprint and one that just makes you tired.

Test it. Program it. Sprint faster.

Save this for your next block and send it to a teammate stuck at the same PB.

The strongest lifter in the room, might be the slowest on competition day!
RFD determines explosive power, acceleration, jumping ability, sprint speed and change of direction. Crucial elements in all sports.
Win with the speed of force, not the amount of force!
