Our GPs & nursing team provide patient-centred care for all ages — from check-ups to children's health, women's & men's health, and more. Shire Family Medical is a family-owned, AGPAL-accredited GP medical centre in the heart of the Sutherland Shire. Led by Dr Louis Traynor and registered nurse Rebel Traynor — both locals and parents themselves — our practice is built around one simple belief: patients deserve to feel heard, supported and genuinely cared for over time. Our team of GPs, nurses, a dietitian and support staff provide patient-centred general practice care for individuals and families at every stage of life, from children to older adults. Beyond everyday GP care, we offer over 20 services on-site, including women's and men's health, paediatrics and childhood immunisations, preventative health checks, skin cancer screening, travel vaccinations, on-site pathology collection, and specialised clinics such as our BRAVE Clinic for blood test anxiety and needle phobia. Open six days a week (Monday–Saturday) and located near Sutherland Station, we've been proudly serving the Sutherland Shire community for over 11 years.

Cervical screening has changed and it’s not the same as the old Pap smear! 🩵
Australia now uses HPV-based cervical screening, which looks for the virus responsible for most cervical cancers.
✨ Screening is generally recommended every 5 years for eligible people aged 25–74.
✨ Self-collection is now an option for many people, offering a more comfortable and private way to screen.

While most headaches aren’t serious, some symptoms should never be ignored.

• A sudden, extremely severe headache
• Weakness, numbness or difficulty speaking
• A headache following a significant head injury
• Fever accompanied by a stiff neck
• Severe vomiting, vision changes or confusion

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men, yet in its early stages it often causes no symptoms. That’s why understanding your personal risk and having a conversation with your GP is so important.

Aged 50 years or over or 45 years with a family history or other risk factors it may be time to talk with your GP about your prostate health and whether PSA testing is appropriate for you.

❤️ New heart attack guidelines for women!

For many years, heart attack symptoms have been based largely on research in men. New international guidelines are helping to change that, recognising that women can experience heart attacks differently and highlighting the importance of earlier, more accurate diagnosis.
While chest pain is still the most common symptom, women may also experience:
• Shortness of breath
• Nausea or vomiting
• Dizziness or feeling faint
• Pain in the jaw, neck, shoulder, back or arm
• Unusual fatigue or a general feeling that something isn’t right
Knowing the signs could save a life, whether it’s yours or someone you love.

🚨 If you think you or someone else may be having a heart attack, call 000 immediately. Don’t wait to see if the symptoms pass.
