OVER 60? YOUR BONES STILL NEED TO BE CHALLENGED.

Maybe you’ve recently had a bone density scan. 🦴

You’ve heard words like osteopenia, low bone density or osteoporosis and suddenly you’re worried about falling, breaking a bone, or what this means for your future.

Those results are important. But they don’t mean you should become afraid of movement.
In fact, there is something you can do.

EXERCISE and importantly, the RIGHT kind of exercise.

YOUR BONES NEED LOAD.

Bone responds to mechanical loading. Just like muscles need to be challenged to become stronger, our bones need an adequate stimulus to encourage them to maintain and adapt their structure.

That might include exercises such as:
🏋️ lifting weights
🪑 weighted sit-to-stands or squats
🙆‍♀️ resistance exercises for the legs and hips
💪 pushing and pulling exercises
📈 gradually increasing resistance as you become stronger

And yes it should eventually feel like work.

Sleep, stress, illness, soreness, pain, medication, recovery and simply having a difficult day can all change how exercise feels.

And consistency matters far more than having one perfect workout.

This is particularly important during rehabilitation, where modifying an exercise doesn't mean you've failed.
Sometimes modifying the exercise is exactly what allows you to keep progressing.

It is never too late to start and always too early to stop.

If you have osteoporosis, a history of fractures, significant pain or other medical conditions, resistance exercise may need to be modified for you.

A physiotherapist or appropriately qualified health professional can help you find a safe starting point and progress it appropriately.

In light of World Physiotherapy Day, here is a success story from Norma, one of our clients.

Within 6-8 weeks, Norma has seen tremendous improvement because of her dedication to her program.

By using ankle and hand weights, combined with educational sessions on pain management, Norma has effectively strengthened her lower limb muscles.

Norma now has the tools to help her move through her exercises while managing her pain cognitively.

While Norma is still working on perfecting her techniques, she has found great pain relief and improved strength overall.

Well done Norma, you have done all the hard work!

Time for a re-introduction! 👋

My name is Tesha Anderson, and I’m the founder of TA Physiotherapy.

I started TA Physiotherapy to provide accessible, personalised physiotherapy care to people who may find it difficult to attend a traditional clinic or hospital. This may be due to disability, mobility challenges, transport difficulties, or other barriers that can make accessing healthcare more challenging.

I began providing services within the Swan Hill community and have since been fortunate enough to expand into surrounding towns, including Nyah West, Tresco, Lake Boga, Mystic Park, Kerang and Cohuna.

It has been an absolute privilege to journey alongside so many individuals, particularly those aged 65 and over, as well as people who are diagnosed with a disability, or chronic condition, those who are isolated or vulnerable within their communities.

My role extends beyond physiotherapy. I believe that supporting someone’s health means looking at the whole person, not just their physical concerns. Where appropriate, I have been able to advocate for my clients and facilitate referrals to other healthcare professionals and multidisciplinary services, helping ensure their broader health and wellbeing needs are supported.

TA Physiotherapy brings physiotherapy care to you, where you feel most comfortable.

Qualifications:
-Bsc Physiotherapy (Hons) from the U.K.
-Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences in Rehabilitation (New Zealand)
-Diploma in Counselling (Australia)
-Accredited and registered lymphoedema specialist for the lower limb (Lymphoedema Education Solutions)
-APA Level 1 and 2: Women’s pelvic Health

Exercise therapy results in significantly greater reduction in pain. end disability. in the long term. However large individual variability raises uncertainty in the effect as indicated by wide confidence intervals. (April 2026 published by MSK Science and Practice).

I come across many clients who feel anxious about starting treatment or starting an exercise program. Reasons being, “would my pain get worse?, it might make things worse? Better leave it alone and not ask for trouble.” The problem will simply not go away however, and 1 month later or sometimes years later, that pain still lingers, because we haven’t addressed the root issue. Physiotherapy helps to make referral to appropriate medical avenues before starting treatment so we can get a clear picture of what we are dealing with. Manual therapy combined with exercise therapy helps to chip away the problem. And starting treatment or an exercise program does not have to be absolutely perfect when you begin. There will be roadblocks and hiccups but it’s what you do after that matters. Don’t be discouraged and keep moving in the right direction.

This was taken the week we had thick fog in the early mornings. I know it isn’t everyone’s favourite time of the year but having grown up in London, UK, winter feels like Home. And I find thick fog - spectacularly beautiful. Was a great day to reach out to remote towns and I got to meet some beautiful people in high need of Physiotherapy input. Win Win!
