Did you know Hepatitis B and C can pass from mother to baby during pregnancy and birth? The good news — with the right screening and care, this risk can be significantly reduced.

✔️ Every pregnant woman is screened for hepatitis B and C as part of routine antenatal care

✔️ If needed, antiviral therapy in the third trimester lowers transmission risk in women who have Hepatitis B

✔️ Babies born to hepatitis B positive mothers receive a vaccine + immunoglobulin within 12 hours of birth — highly effective protection

✔️ Hepatitis C has no vaccine yet, but risk-based screening and simple precautions during birth make a difference

✔️ Breastfeeding is safe in almost all cases, once your baby is vaccinated

Did you know that there is an overlap of symptoms in women with gut problems like IBS and endometriosis🌿

Research shows that women with endometriosis have higher rates of IBS and gut hypersensitivity — leading to bloating, cramping, diarrhoea, and constipation.

So diet modification acts as a useful adjunct in patients with endometriosis’.

The Low FODMAP diet works by reducing fermentable carbohydrates that trigger gut symptoms. While it hasn’t been studied exclusively in endometriosis, evidence from IBS trials shows symptom improvement in up to 75% of patients — and the gut-endo overlap makes it a clinically relevant tool.

How it works:
✅ Elimination phase — 2 to 6 weeks of strict low-FODMAP eating
✅ Reintroduction — one food group at a time to identify your triggers
✅ Personalisation — a long-term diet tailored to you

It’s not a cure, and it’s not meant to be permanent. But for many women with endo, it can significantly improve daily quality of life.

Australia with its current guidelines around HPV vaccination, screening and treatment is leading the way world wide in being the first country to possibly eliminate cervical cancer by 2035.

What an immensely proud movement to be a part of as a health care professional.

With a locally developed vaccine, robust National immunisation program, all round uptake with the 5 yearly screening, self collect swabs to target under screened group and prompt treatment of pre-cancerous changes are strong pillars on which this program is based.

Further focus on unscreened population will be the key towards fast forwarding towards this solid goal.
