AAC During Shared Book Reading 📱📖🗣️
This user is still quite new to AAC and has come a long way!

During this session, The Very Hungry Caterpillar was used to target:
• Labelling and commenting on fruits
• Identifying and commenting on emotions (a goal nearing mastery)
• Independent navigation from the home page to relevant vocabulary folders (an emerging skill still requiring high levels of prompting)

This was done after reading the book a few times with the speech pathologist modelling the target vocabulary on the device.

There are lots of prompting errors in this video - but no therapy session is perfect! Feedback is welcome.

We will soon be transitioning to a TD Navio Midi and TD Snap as this is all NDIS would fund - any advice?!

Pronoun mistakes like this can be a normal part of language development as children learn words like I, me, you, he, and she.

Research shows pronouns develop gradually across the early years. While some errors are expected, frequent or unusual pronoun difficulties may sometimes be a sign of underlying language challenges where language therapy can help.

Understanding what develops when can help identify when a child may need extra support.

We’re Hiring – Speech & Growth Clinic is seeking a passionate Paediatric Speech Pathologist to join our Leichhardt and Sefton locations.

If you’re passionate about providing a high standard of care, learning, and working within a team that values you, we’d love to hear from you.

Position
Full-time (preferred), with flexibility to split into two part-time roles for the right candidates.

The Role
This position is ideally structured across both locations:
• 3 days in Leichhardt
• 2 days in Sefton

There is flexibility to adapt this into two part-time roles (one per site) if needed.

About You
• Minimum 2 years’ experience (early-career clinicians considered if highly motivated and developing independence)
• Confident managing a paediatric caseload with support as needed
• Committed to delivering high-quality, family-centred care
• Ideally available across both locations
• Current driver’s licence and access to a car

The children worked on their communication and social goals through a fun, hands-on cooking experience, including reading a menu, requesting items in a pretend shop, following multi-step instructions, and taking turns with friends.

Our group sessions were packed with fun, connection, and meaningful skill-building.

We worked on:
âś” Greeting peers and starting conversations
âś” Asking questions to learn about each other
✔ Language tasks – shopping for ingredients using a list & sequencing steps in our science experiments
âś” Science experiments (with LOTS of turn-taking and negotiating roles)
✔ “Floor is Lava” – taking turns being the leader
âś” Practicing social scripts for winning AND losing
