I’m a big believer that helpful dating content doesn’t always come from dating accounts. 👀

Sometimes it’s a psychology podcast you discover on a coastal walk, a mindfulness teacher you’ve been following for years, or an account that makes you laugh while also making you question some of the dating rules we’ve been taught.

These are 3 accounts I’ve personally found useful and recommend exploring for different reasons — from vulnerability and perfectionism, to self-compassion and mindfulness, to feminism and equality in relationships.

And yes, I absolutely nerd out on this stuff in my spare time 😂

💜 Save this post to explore when you next need a little inspiration for your dating life.

Have you come across any of these accounts? Or is there an account you think I should explore?

If you find yourself thinking:

“All the good people are taken.”

…and then deleting the apps for the next 6 months, this DBT skill might be worth trying. 👀

One way to practise dialectical thinking is to play devil’s advocate — deliberately argue for the opposite of your current perspective.

So if your brain says:

❌ “All the good people are taken.”

Try:

🤔 “Okay… but what evidence do I have for that? What if there ARE good people on here that I simply haven’t met yet?”

You don’t have to convince yourself that dating apps are amazing.

The point is to create a little more flexibility in your thinking — because when our thoughts become more flexible, our emotions and behaviours can become more flexible too.

🧠 DBT SKILLS FOR DATING

Save this for the next time your brain starts making sweeping statements about dating.

And send it to a friend who says “all the good ones are taken” and then goes off the apps for 6 months 😂

Bonus points if you can hear my baby sneeze at the end when I share the skill. 👶😂

Your inner high-school debater might actually be useful in your dating life. 😂

One of my favourite DBT skills to bring into dating is dialectical thinking.

Dialectical thinking means being able to hold two seemingly opposing ideas at the same time.

And this can be particularly useful when dating, because it’s SO easy to slip into all-or-nothing thinking:

“I hate dating apps. They’re completely useless.”

“I’m scared to start dating again.”

“This person isn’t right for me, so dating is pointless.”

Instead, try adding an AND.

✨ “I hate dating apps AND they can be useful.”

✨ “I’m scared to start dating AND I’m excited to meet someone.”

✨ “This person wasn’t right for me AND I can still learn something from the experience.”

You don’t have to convince yourself that the opposite is true.

The practice is simply to make room for another perspective.

One way to do this is to play devil’s advocate: take your current position and argue the opposite with VIGOUR.

Basically… bring back your inner high-school debater. 😂

The aim isn’t to become endlessly positive about dating.

It’s to become more flexible in how you think, feel and respond.

And sometimes, changing those patterns on the inside can create a shift in your dating patterns on the outside. 💜

Save this for the next time you notice yourself stuck in an “always/never/all/nothing” dating thought.

Hi, I’m Nadine 👋

If you’re new here, welcome! And if you’ve been around for a while, you might not know the full story behind why I’m so passionate about the psychology of dating.

I’m a clinical psychologist + dating coach, and I’m fascinated by the intersection of psychology, relationships and the very messy world of modern dating.

After 10+ years working across hospitals, public health, private practice and group programs, I kept seeing how much our relationships can affect our wellbeing — and how useful psychological skills can be when navigating them.

I also noticed a gap in support for the dating part of the journey.

So this space is where I share practical, psychology-informed tips to help you build confidence, clarity and healthier dating patterns — without assuming there’s something wrong with you if dating feels hard.

Expect psychology, practical skills, a few metaphors 😂, and the occasional beach photo.

One of the things I love most about DBT is that it gives you a toolkit — rather than just one strategy for one particular problem.

I’ve used DBT skills across my work in hospital settings, psychological therapy and coaching, and one of the reasons I find them so useful is how transferable they are.

In dating, the same toolkit can support you through very different situations:

💭 Managing anxiety when someone hasn’t replied
🗣️ Communicating what you need
🚦Setting boundaries
💔 Coping with rejection or disappointment
🔥 Managing emotional triggers
🤝 Navigating difficult conversations

The aim isn’t to stop having difficult emotions. It’s to build skills that help you respond to them in ways that are more aligned with your values and the kind of relationships you want to build.

That’s a big part of what I mean when I talk about a psychological approach to dating.
