Pain shouldn’t be a normal part of being a teenager.
If a young body is already hurting just from playing sports, we shouldn’t be teaching them to accept it. We should be asking why.
These are the years where movement should be expanding their world, not limiting it.
Teenagers should be running, studying, learning, playing sports, competing, and figuring out what their bodies are capable of without constantly paying for it with pain afterward.
Ruby came to Shannon Hegarty Functional Patterns Sydney dealing with significant lower back and neck pain while still trying to stay active and play sports.
BEFORE ❌
❌ Lower back & neck pain: 8/10
❌ Pain and discomfort after playing sports
❌ Lateral hip shift & hip hike
❌ Scoliosis & kypho-lordosis
❌ Rib compression
❌ Poor intra-abdominal pressure
❌ Regularly feeling sore, stiff & restricted
AFTER 20 SESSIONS ✅
✅ Lower back & neck pain: 3/10
✅ Playing sports with significantly less pain afterward
✅ Better joint stacking & alignment
✅ Improved scoliosis & kyphosis-lordotic presentation
✅ Better intra-abdominal pressure
✅ Less restriction and improved posture
The answer shouldn’t be telling young people to stop moving because movement hurts.
The goal should be improving how they move so they can spend these years doing what teenagers are supposed to do.
