Hi 👋🏽

I am Rani Vincent - End of Life Doula & Counsellor based on Dharawal Country (Illawarra - South Coast of NSW).

….and I LOVE TALKING ABOUT DYING, DEATH & GRIEF 💁🏼‍♀️

For some, this may be strange.
Unsettling even.
Or just plain weird.
But, I here for all of the above!

Life is a WILD ride.
Wondrous.
Beautiful.
Chaotic.
Wobbly.
It is all of the things…

And death is simply part of this wild ride!
A part that many people do everything they can to not think of too much about because ‘it’s morbid/ sad/ depressing…inset your word here!
But these are the parts of life I love leaning into, when most want to lean out.

Death is an unescapable truth of life.
A masterpiece of its own, that brings many fruits for life in its wake (which absolutely does not take away from the heartbreak and sadness).
… and that is why I am so incredibly passionate about it.

I’m here to weave a different narrative.
One that is educational, honest, empowering and at times raw.

I’m here because let’s face it, we are all dying. So, we may as well enjoy the ride while we are here and prepare the best we can for when this ride transitions into the mystic!

It is an honour to have you here 🤎

With boundless love,

Rani🧚🏼

IMPORT PERMITS GRANTED FOR MUSHROOM COFFINS

An Australian company will soon import coffins grown from mycelium, the underground root network of mushrooms. They're essentially a ‘living cocoon’.

The Dutch makers, Loop Biotech, have teamed up with Arrow Bronze Pty Ltd to distribute them here. (Arrow Bronze has been in the cemetery and memorial space for 80 years, making plaques, urns, and accessories.)

Arrow Bronze has been jumping through customs hoops for months, but just yesterday they finally scored the import permits for Australia. They’ve also got import permits for New Zealand.

Here’s the lowdown:

🍄 They will be imported from the Netherlands, not grown here.
🍄 The adult ‘Living Cocoon’ comes in one size and is tested to hold up to 200 kilograms.
🍄 For children, there are three size options, including an infant model.
🍄 They’re soft and velvety to the touch.
🍄 They also repel water, so rain on a funeral day won’t be an issue, nor will moisture compromise the coffin’s structure.
🍄 Once buried in soil, the coffins and urns self-compost. They degrade in 45 days.
🍄 10,000 have been used around the world
🍄 20% of those have been cremated
🍄 They are said to behave like a standard coffin in the cremator.

It's great that there will be another choice for families.

There's more info about these mycelium and hemp-grown coffins in my blog in the comments.

There are SO many options that ARE available that most people don’t know!

There are SO many options that ARE available that most people don’t know!

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. ⚰️

When planning a funeral, most people immediately think of a coffin or a casket. But there is another option gaining traction in mainstream Australia — and it involves no box at all.

It’s called a shroud, and while it has been a sacred tradition in Muslim, Jewish, and Bahá’í cultures for centuries, it is now becoming widely available for cremations.

In fact, Australia's largest funeral provider, InvoCare, just quietly approved shrouded cremations at around 20 of its sites across NSW and Queensland.

But there’s an interesting twist... 🤔
InvoCare won’t be actively advertising this option to its clients, probably because coffins are so lucrative. It’s primarily being opened up for other funeral directors who 'rent' their cremators.

What does this mean for you? If you or a loved one wants a shrouded cremation, you have to ask for it. And if your chosen provider says no? Find one who will.

Read my blog to learn about:
👉 The history of shrouds
👉 The practicalities (like why a timber "shroud bearer" is required)
👉 Why many people don't like the idea
👉 The psychological impact on crematorium staff handling the organic shape of a human form rather than a box.

What do you think? Is it something you'd consider?

On this day, 30 years ago my life turned upside down and inside out.
Everything as I once knew it was rearranged, unfamiliar and confronting… the carefree nature of my childhood flung into the depths of life-altering brain injury, which would strip me bare.

What I couldn’t see at the time, was this injury was going to be my greatest teacher in life…

I couldn’t see that journeying total right-sided paralysis was going to illuminate an inner resilience that would carry me through the darkest of days.

I couldn’t see that relearning who I was and how I now operate in this world would gift me a deeper sense of compassion, understanding and openness.

I couldn’t see that the years and years of gruelling rehab would build a mindset that was unshakeable and unbreakable.

I couldn’t see that I would have the ability and capacity to rebuild my life over and over again, no matter what life delivered (and boy hasn’t it delivered some curve balls!!!)

I couldn’t see that journeying the depths of my own mortality (many time over) would gift me a way of truly being with and appreciating this incredibly precious gift called LIFE!

The reality is, that I still live with (and will for the rest of my days) the impacts of brain injury.
It is deeply imprinted into the very fabric of my being - my constant companion.
My greatest gift.

So, today, I celebrate the life that I very nearly didn’t have.
I celebrate the sheer willingness to lean in, and embrace whatever unfolds.
I celebrate the spirit that has been forged through immense challenge.
I celebrate the adventures that this journey has gifted me.
I celebrate the love that has always surrounded me.
I celebrate the becoming of the woman I am today.

I’ve begun countless times before… yet, here I find myself, beginning once more 🌱

Life, for me, has been incredibly rich with innumerable experiences that have taken me to the very edges of myself — time and time again.

From tasting the sweet nectar of soul-captivating highs, to plummeting head-first into life-altering lows that changed everything… my journey to this very point has been anything but bland 😉

If anything, I have been gifted a wealth of experiences, lessons, and insights that have opened the door to this next chapter of accompanying others as they learn how to live with what has changed, rather than around it.

This is a space for the raw, the tender, and the deeply human — where nothing needs ‘fixing’, only witnessing, and where those moving through change or loss are welcome to arrive just as they are.

I am excited to share this space with you!

With Gentleness,
Rani ♥️

Our vision is an Australia where we all have choice at the end of life. We empower people to choose the care that is right for them, including the option of voluntary assisted dying.

In modern British society, death is out of sight and behind closed doors. Many of us lack direct exposure to the dying process - with all sorts of potential ...
