Fibroids frequently co-exist with adenomyosis, a leading cause of pelvic pain and menstrual cramps. These non-cancerous growths affect many women, often resulting in heavy bleeding and, in some cases, impacting fertility. Large fibroids can significantly increase pregnancy risks, including preterm birth. We thoroughly evaluate all patients with fibroids to rule out malignancy and offer minimally invasive or robotic surgical options for removal. The image in the reel shows a 30 cm fibroid, weighing 2.5 kg, removed using robotic surgery.

When we first moved into Inner West Women’s and Children’s, only the essentials were ready. We had to wait four extra months before opening in 2024, so it felt great to finally welcome patients into our own space. As time went on, I brought in things like paintings and plants to help the place feel warmer and more welcoming. Next time you visit, take a look around and see what’s new. You might spot a few surprises.

Celebrating my 41st birthday, I reflect on what has truly been the best decade of my life. If you are one of my patients, you may have encountered some of these dedicated professionals, even during weekends for emergency procedures. I am deeply grateful to work alongside them each day. The sense of community and support within our workplace is profoundly meaningful. “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” — Henry Ford

Inner West Women’s and Children is growing, and we’re happy to welcome Dr Amy Cao, a talented Colorectal Surgeon, to our team. She will be supporting robotic excision of bowel endometriosis at Westmead Private Hospital. Treating Stage IV endometriosis works best when a team of specialists is involved. The strongest results come from good relationships between patients and surgeons, along with careful planning. Every Endometriosis Excision Surgery should include a dedicated Colorectal Surgeon. Planning ahead helps achieve better outcomes. Here’s a photo from our Monthly Friday Afternoon Robotic Endometriosis Team. Who says Friday nights can’t be fun at the hospital?

I began my fellowship journey in 2019 and 2020, never fully appreciating then how profoundly those years would shape my career and character. The road to becoming a Minimally Invasive Gynaecologist was demanding — long hours, complex surgical cases, and challenging endometriosis surgeries using both laparoscopic and robotic techniques tested me in every way. Yet, within those challenges came growth, resilience, purpose, and an unwavering passion for women’s health.

Today, the journey has come full circle. What once felt impossible has now become an opportunity to give back. It is an honour to mentor and support the next generation of AGES fellows — not only as a training supervisor, but also as a mentor, confidante, and friend.

Surgery teaches us technical skill, but mentorship shapes legacy. I am deeply grateful to those who guided me, and I hope to do the same.

At Inner West Women’s and Children, we are committed to providing regular follow-up care. After surgery, it is best for the surgeon who performed your procedure to check on your recovery. Many factors can affect how you heal, so we recommend a face-to-face appointment to make sure your follow-up is thorough and nothing is overlooked.

Starting the day with coffee before a busy schedule of all-day fertility-preserving robotic surgeries at the Mater Hospital, one of my favourite places to work. I focus on staying calm and steady as I take on the challenge of treating endometriosis. It’s a big day full of possibilities, all with one goal in mind: helping patients achieve spontaneous pregnancies.

Welcome to my clinic room! I want to create a confidential environment that feels warm and welcoming, not overly clinical.

My aim is for patients to feel at ease whenever they visit for gynecological care. It means a lot to me when patients, their partners, and family members say they feel safe and comfortable during their visits.

Easter reflection last weekend.

02/04/2026

After Christmas, things got very busy at Inner West Women's and Children. Like many of you, I look forward to the Easter long weekend as a chance to recharge and think about how the year is going. April is my favourite month, not just because it includes my birthday and wedding anniversary, but also because it is Adenomyosis Awareness Month. Adenomyosis often leads to abdominal pain and heavy bleeding. As a Robotic Surgeon who uses a trauma-informed approach to pelvic pain, I am proud to support patients with Adenomyosis.
