We don´t need to do more (or less necessarily) - what helps is placing less pressure around what we´re doing.
Many women resist self-care because it can feel like adding on to the already long list of routines and responsibilities.
I remember early in my motherhood journey, the good old´...¨I´ll go for that massage/yoga class one day¨ would be a day that never came.
And when I did finally seized the day, it was usually either filled with a side of guilt or a wish to go more often. And yet the cycle continued.
Eventually I came to learn that establishing a self-care ritual does not have to add more to our plate or be something we have to leave the house for.
Incorporating little self-care rituals within and around my roles and responsibilities helped to make that plate feel bigger and helped me build capacity to do those things better!
Self-care can be found in micro-moments like allowing a small pause between transitions like work and school pick-up.
Or giving yourself a chance to decompress a little once home instead of rushing straight into making dinner.
Or taking a few conscious breaths whilst doing a task instead of waiting to exhale until the end of the day.
Even one minute is enough to drop the pressure.
Any of those ideas may feel like foreign concepts at first or you might be skeptical that a minute could make a difference (I resonated with both!)
What changed for me was staying curious and giving myself the permission to try it out anyway.
A few minutes consistently was enough for me to interrupt the pattern of waiting and wanting.
I surprised myself to find that not only did I begin to extend the time I take out for myself guilt-free, I then began to make choices in what takes up space on my plate!
I believe everyone ought to have something that they can lean on anywhere, anytime in their daily life.
So I've created a Mindful Minute meditation with busy women and mums in mind.
If you´d like to try this Mindful Minute Meditation to support you throughout your day or whenever you need guidance for that pause, comment or DM ¨MINUTE¨ and I'll send it through.
