World Breastfeeding Week finishes tomorrow, but breastfeeding should be talked about all the time. This year’s theme is “Breastfeeding for a sustainable start in life: Strengthen what works” one of the most proactive ways I see expectant parents “strengthen what works” before birth is through antenatal expressing.

I encourage this from around 36 weeks gestation, especially if you might need early feeding support such as managing gestational diabetes, multiple pregnancies or your baby has a stay in the NICU or special care nursery.

It’s Men’s Mental Health Week, and there’s a vital conversation we need to have.
We often talk about the physical and emotional recovery of a new mother, but we rarely talk about the silent struggle many new fathers face: Paternal Postpartum Mental Health.
Becoming a parent is a life-altering transition. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, but it’s not something you have to carry alone. Whether it’s anxiety, feelings of detachment, or the pressure to be the “strong one,” your mental health matters just as much as your physical presence.

To the dads: You aren’t “failing” if you’re struggling. You’re human. Checking in on your own wellbeing isn’t a distraction from your family—it’s the best way to show up for them.

If you’re feeling off, talk to someone. Your partner, a friend, or your GP. Let’s make this week about showing up for ourselves so we can keep showing up for those we love.
