"When is the baby due?" It’s usually the very first question everyone asks!

Calculating your Estimated Due Date (EDD) generally comes down to two main methods, as shown in our graphic:

1️⃣ The Last Menstrual Period (LMP) Method: Counting 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of your last period. This is the standard rule of thumb assuming a typical 28-day cycle.

2️⃣ The Conception Method: If you know the exact day you ovulated (or conceived), counting 38 weeks (266 days) forward from that specific date.

Our Tip: While these calendar methods give us a fantastic starting point, many women have irregular cycles or ovulate a bit earlier or later than day 14. That is why an early dating ultrasound scan (usually between 7–11 weeks) is performed for confirming your official due date.

Eating for your hormones?

Your menstrual cycle is divided into four distinct phases, and your nutritional needs shift with each one. "Cycle-syncing" your diet means choosing specific nutrients to support your body’s changing hormone and energy levels throughout the month.

Here is your quick-start guide to fuel each phase:

🌱 Menstrual Phase (The Bleed): Focus on iron-rich foods (red meat, spinach) and Vitamin C to replenish losses and support energy.
🌸 Follicular Phase (Pre-Ovulation): Focus on fresh, light foods and healthy fats (avocado, nuts) to support developing follicles.
☀️ Ovulatory Phase (The Peak): Focus on fibre-rich veggies (broccoli, berries) and anti-inflammatory foods to help the liver process oestrogen efficiently.
🍂 Luteal Phase (The Wind Down): Focus on complex carbs (sweet potato, oats) and magnesium (dark chocolate, seeds) to stabilise blood sugar and ease PMS.

Did you know that "morning sickness" affects up to 80% of pregnant women?

Formally known as Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy (NVP), it usually kicks in around the 6-week mark. While it's a completely normal sign that those early pregnancy hormones are doing their job, that doesn't make it any easier to manage.

When to check in with us:
While mild to moderate nausea is normal, please contact our clinic if you are experiencing severe, non-stop vomiting, losing weight, or showing signs of dehydration (like dark urine or dizziness). This could be Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG), which requires extra medical care and hydration support.

Let’s talk about sexual health without the taboo.

Chlamydia is the most frequently diagnosed STI in Australia, particularly among young adults. But because the vast majority of cases have zero symptoms, it often goes completely unnoticed.

From a clinical perspective, the real concern isn’t the infection itself—it’s what happens if it sits untreated. Over time, silent chlamydia can cause inflammation and scarring in your fallopian tubes, which is a leading preventable cause of fertility struggles and ectopic pregnancies.

Our takeaway message: Getting tested isn't something to feel embarrassed about; it is a routine, empowering part of looking after your body. If you are sexually active, changing partners, or planning a pregnancy, a quick, simple swab at your next check-up is all it takes to keep your reproductive health on track.

Your health is our priority. If you're due for a routine check-up or sexual health screening, reach out to our rooms to book a confidential consultation.

Writing down your birth preferences is a fantastic way to prepare for the big day—it helps you explore your options, understand what matters most to you, and ensures you and your birth partner are on the same page.

However, if there is one golden rule of obstetrics, it’s that babies rarely read our plans!

While we love mapping out your ideal scenarios—from active birth movements and lighting to pain relief preferences—our biggest piece of advice is to keep an open mind.

Birth is a dynamic, unpredictable journey. Sometimes, the safest and most beautiful path to meeting your baby requires a detour from the original script. Choosing to be flexible isn’t a failure; it’s an active, powerful adjustment to ensure the safety of both you and your little one.

Think of your birth plan as a compass, not a rigid map. No matter which direction the day takes, your team is there to navigate it with you, keeping you informed, respected, and supported every step of the way.

For the experienced mums in our community: Did your birth follow your preferences, or did your baby have a plan of their own? Share your stories below! 👇

Let’s talk about the math behind conception.

If you are trying to conceive, tracking your cycle is the best place to start. Your most fertile days are the 5 days leading up to and including ovulation, with the highest chance of conception happening the day before and the day of egg release.

Our clinical tip: Instead of waiting for a positive ovulation test to schedule intimacy, focus on regular in*******se throughout your fertile window to ensure s***m are already waiting when the egg is released.

Save this post to keep track of your phases, and book a consultation with us if you'd like guidance on preconception health!

Let’s talk about the symptom nobody wants to talk about: urinary incontinence.

Whether it’s a little leak when you sneeze, or a sudden, uncontrollable urge to run to the bathroom, pelvic floor issues affect millions of women—especially during pregnancy, after childbirth, and through menopause.

Here is the most important thing we want you to know: Just because it is common, doesn't mean it’s normal, and you don’t have to "just live with it."

Incontinence is highly treatable, and the absolute best place to start is with targeted pelvic floor therapy. We are so lucky to have our dedicated Women’s Health Physio, Elise, right here at the clinic to support you. Elise specialises in assessing and strengthening the pelvic floor, helping you regain your control and your confidence in a safe, comfortable space.
