Hepatitis Awareness Week, so get the facts and take the next step to protect yourself.
Hepatitis is a viral liver infection, and the 3 most common types are A, B and C. In Australia, more than 400,000 people are living with Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C, and many remain undiagnosed.
Many people do not experience any symptoms, but some may experience:
- fever
- feeling tired
- nausea
- diarrhoea
- loss of appetite
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes).
If you experience any symptoms of hepatitis, don’t wait. Talk to your doctor straight away.
Living with Hepatitis B or C? Talk to your doctor about a liver health check-up once a year, even if you feel healthy and well.

Today is World Hepatitis Day. Hepatitis is a group of illnesses that damage your liver.
Today we’re asking what the health is hepatitis B?
Let’s find out with Dr Chris Bourne.
Most people with chronic Hepatitis B do not have symptoms until the disease has caused serious liver damage. The best way to find out if you have it is to ask your doctor for a test.
If you are living with chronic Hepatitis B, check your viral load at least once a year through your GP, even if you aren’t taking medication for it right now.

The misuse of nitrous oxide, also known as ‘nangs’ or ‘laughing gas’, has been linked to serious health risks, including neurological damage, vitamin B12 deficiency, and paralysis.

The misuse of nitrous oxide, also known as ‘nangs’ or ‘laughing gas’, has been linked to serious health risks, including neurological damage, vitamin B12 deficiency, and paralysis.

From November 2026, new regulations to limit access to nitrous oxide for non-legitimate use will start. The regulations will ensure businesses who require nitrous oxide for legitimate food preparation, medical, industrial and other lawful purposes can continue to access it.

Directly affected stakeholders will be supported to understand the new requirements and to implement the reforms.
