Distance in a relationship doesn’t always mean you’re falling out of love.
Sometimes, the distance is less about what has happened between you and more about what you’re each carrying.
Stress, responsibility, exhaustion and unresolved hurt all add to the load we carry. Over time, this can place greater strain on our nervous systems, moving us into different states and sometimes tipping us further into survival. From these states, we can experience each other very differently.
A neutral tone can feel cold. Space can feel like rejection. A simple request can sound like criticism.
Over time, you can begin to feel disconnected, misunderstood or even wonder whether you’re simply no longer compatible.
This doesn’t mean every relationship problem is a nervous system problem. But becoming aware of your nervous system state can help you understand what is happening within you and how that may be shaping what happens between you.
Awareness creates choice. And sometimes, finding your way back to each other begins with understanding what is happening within you.
