🐊 Helping little ones understand BIG feelings! 💚

Big feelings can be hard to explain, especially for little ones!

At Sydney Kids OT, we’re always looking for helpful resources to support children and families beyond the therapy room.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce InnerSteps , a new interactive app designed to help children aged 5–9 notice, name and manage their emotions through fun stories and games!

Meet Ricky Croc 🐊 and his friends, who help children navigate everyday challenges like saying goodbye at school drop-off, feeling nervous around friends and understanding those tricky feelings in their bodies.

✨ What we love about InnerSteps :

Engaging stories and interactive games that make learning fun

Helps children recognise emotions and body signals

No reading required, making it accessible for younger children

No time limits or pressure to get things right

Practical skills children can practise at home

Our Sydney Kids OT team had the opportunity to provide feedback during the app’s development, and we’re delighted to see it come to life!

👉 Ask your OT or visit www.innersteps.org to learn more.

Yesterday was World Gratitude Day 💛 and with the school holidays just around the corner, we have a little gratitude activity for families to try at home.

Create a Gratitude Jar 🌟

Each day of the school holidays, encourage your child to write or draw one thing they’re grateful for on a small piece of paper and pop it into a jar.

It could be something big or small - a fun day with a friend, their favourite dinner, a cuddle with the dog, sunshine at the park or simply something that made them smile.

Then, on the last day of the holidays, take your gratitude jar on a special outing to your favourite ice cream shop. 🍦

Over an ice cream together, open the jar and read through all the little moments you’ve collected over the holidays.

A simple way to encourage children to notice the good things in their day and a lovely little family ritual to finish the holidays. 💛

Feel free to use our handy template to get started!
Happy World Gratitude Day and end of term from the Sydney Kids OT team!
P.S. Sydney Kids OT is open as usual throughout the school holidays.

Have you noticed some movement settles your child, while other movement winds them up?

Not all movement is regulating. Giving an activity a purpose, destination and clear stopping point can make a real difference.

Scroll through our reel for practical examples and signs to look for.

What movement regulates your child?

R U OK? Day 💛

Parenting is rewarding, messy, exhausting and everything in between.

And when you’re supporting a child who needs some extra help, there can be even more to juggle — appointments, school, therapies, routines and big emotions. Siblings can feel the impact too, and it’s easy for parents and carers to put their own needs last.

So this R U OK? Day, a reminder:

It’s okay to ask for help.
It’s okay to make mistakes.
It’s okay to have bad days.
It’s okay not to have all the answers.

You don’t need to be the perfect parent. Looking after your own mental health and checking in with the people around you is an important part of looking after your family, too.

Today, take a moment to ask someone “R U OK?” — and don’t forget to ask yourself as well. 💛

A Sydney Kids OT family shares their experience 💛

There’s nothing we love more than seeing the children and young people we work with grow in confidence, independence and happiness over the years.

This wonderful young man has been part of the Sydney Kids OT community for many years, and now at 18, we’re so proud to still have him coming through our doors every week!

His family recently shared these beautiful words about their experience with our team, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

It’s a privilege to be part of the journey of the families we work with and to create a place where our young people feel supported, encouraged and genuinely excited to come each week.

Thank you for being such a special part of the Sydney Kids OT community. 💛

We are so incredibly proud of one of our very own Sydney Kids OT kids, Henry! 💙⛷️

Henry has been coming to see us at Sydney Kids OT since he was little, so seeing him now skiing independently without any aids after 11 years of lessons is such a special moment.

When Henry was just two years old and not yet walking, his family were told that he may never be able to walk. Fast forward to today, and he’s out on the slopes skiing independently and feeling incredibly proud of himself — as he should be!

What an amazing achievement and a beautiful reminder of what determination, persistence and the right support can achieve.

Congratulations Henry! The whole Sydney Kids OT team is so proud of you! 💙🎿👏

✨ Welcome Louise Galligan to the Sydney Kids OT team! 💙

We’re excited to introduce Louise, who joins us as our newest OT. Louise holds a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Limerick, Ireland, and brings experience working across private practice, schools, community and multidisciplinary settings in both Ireland and Australia. She is passionate about delivering neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based care that helps children thrive.

We’re delighted to have found someone with the experience, skills and compassion to continue providing high-quality care so we sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding through this process.

Louise will begin seeing clients from Friday 31 July, and we can’t wait for our families to meet her. Please join us in giving Louise a very warm Sydney Kids OT welcome! 💙

✏️✨ Progress worth celebrating! ✨✏️

Just look at this incredible handwriting transformation over the past 3 months!

This kindergarten student has worked so hard, and we couldn’t be prouder of the progress they’ve made. Through practice, persistence and the right support, we’ve seen improvements in letter formation, sizing, spacing and overall confidence with writing.

It’s important to remember that every child develops at their own pace, and small, consistent gains can lead to amazing results over time.

A huge congratulations to this little learner for all their hard work — and to their family for supporting them along the way. 💙

We love celebrating these milestones and helping children build the skills and confidence they need to thrive at school and beyond.
