✨ SHE’S BACK! ✨

We are so excited to welcome our lovely Lisa back to The Psych Collaborative after maternity leave from the 20th of October 🤍

Lisa is a Registered Psychologist and one of those therapists who has a beautiful way of making you feel safe, comfortable and genuinely heard.

Her approach is warm, person-centred and completely non-judgemental. She takes the time to understand not just what you’re struggling with, but you as a whole person, your experiences, your relationships and the life that has brought you to this point.

Lisa particularly loves supporting women through the many seasons and transitions of life, including:

🤍 Motherhood and the perinatal period
🤍 Women’s health and chronic illness
🤍 Anxiety and overwhelm
🤍 Family and relationship dynamics
🤍 People-pleasing and difficulty asserting your needs
🤍 Confidence, vulnerability and empowerment
🤍 Trauma
🤍 Depression
🤍 Work stress, life transitions and big decisions

Her work draws on evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, DBT and mindfulness-based therapies, while always tailoring therapy to the individual sitting in front of her.

And if you’ve worked with Lisa before, you’ll know there’s usually a little laughter sprinkled in amongst the deeper conversations too.

Lisa is now opening her books for appointments.

✨ Medicare Mental Health Care Plan rebates available
✨ Private health rebates available
✨ SIRA accredited
✨ Online appointments

We are so happy to have her back!! We know her clients will be too! 🥰 email or use the link in our bio to get in touch with Lisa 💛

It can be so easy to covertly praise ‘good’ in children (especially girls) when they’re being obedient, polite and agreeable.

While these traits aren’t inherently problematic, they can become a problem when girls learn that being ‘good’ means ignoring their discomfort, making themselves smaller, managing other people’s feelings or saying yes when they really want to say no.

While it’s really uncomfortable to let children be loud, messy and take up space - it’s really very important work. These are intentional affirmations I’ve been practicing with my daughter (and showing her too!). But it’s hard!

And remember they’ll learn best when you model these to them, rather than just practice with them. And maybe some of us are teaching these lessons to our daughters while learning them ourselves 🤍

If you have a daughter or young person in your life save these for when you need 💾

(Remember take what fits and leave what doesn’t for you, your values and your family and Instagram is not a replacement for individual/ family psychological support)

Just some reminders that therapy isn’t reserved for crisis or trauma.

Chatting to a therapist can help you to make sense of something that might be hard to name, in a way that’s safe and supportive. Because most of the time the ‘smaller’ stuff is actually just as important to talk through as the big stuff 🤍

A little nervous system cheat sheet to better understand adaptive patterns from our very wise memory driven survival responses ☺️

Understanding your nervous system can help shift the question from: “What’s wrong with me?”
to
“What happened to me… how did my nervous system protect me and what does my system need now?”

If this resonates, our therapists at The Psych Collaborative are here to support you in understanding your patterns with compassion, curiousity and evidence-based care 🤍

Enquiries can be made via our website or email 📧 .

therapy can be the first thing to go when costs are rising, but the people who are the most stretched financially often need the support the most.

So here’s some ways you may not have considered when accessing lower cost or free psychological support 🤍 (please note this list isn’t exhaustive and costs can vary depending on location, cover, clinician and your safety net)

If you have a valid Medicare MHCP, EDTP, CPMP, use private health, or are eligible for VOC counselling please get in touch! We have immediate availability 😊

a reminder that it’s ok to take your time in sharing a part of you that might be tender, confusing or scary to be vulnerable with.

Your therapist is there to sit with you, regardless of how quickly or slowly you unravel and share these parts of you.

Have a sensitive child and don’t want them to fall into the same patterns of people pleasing you might have?

Here are some responses to keep on hand when you’re feeling stuck 🤍

Remember take what fits and leave what doesn’t, every child and parenting journey is so different but this may help if you’re feeling a little stuck. (And by no means is this list exhaustive)

A powerful shift: feelings are signals in the nervous system, not verdicts on your worth.

One of the most powerful therapeutic shifts is helping people recognise the difference between:

Emotion
and
the meaning the mind attaches to that emotion.

The emotion deserves compassion.
The story deserves curiosity.

Because many of those stories were written in childhood when we were trying to make sense of pain
And/or discomfort.

And they don’t have to remain the truth we live by.
