What is the best way to teach my child new words?

The best way is usually not flashcards, quizzing, or asking your child to repeat words over and over.

Children learn language best when they hear words naturally throughout their day during meaningful interactions with the people around them

Try modelling language during:
🛁 Bath time — “Wash arms! Splash splash!”
🍎 Cooking — “Cut apple. Mix mix!”
🧸 Play — “Car go fast!”
🧹 Cleaning — “Wipe table. All clean!”
🚗 In the car — “Big truck! Bye bus!”
📚 Book time — “The dog is sleeping.”

You don’t need to turn every moment into a lesson.
Simple, repeated language during everyday routines is powerful ✨

Communication is more than words… it’s messy, sensory, hands-on play

This 3-ingredient kinetic sand is such an easy, safe way to play, learn, and build communication at home. As little hands explore, you can model language, follow instructions, build vocabulary, and create opportunities for turn-taking and interaction.

✨ Ingredients
• 1/2 cup oil
• A drop of food colouring
• 2 cups flour

Mix, squish, pour, and PLAY.

Think describing (soft, crumbly), actions (mix, pour, squeeze), and simple directions (put in, take out) — all while having fun.
