📋 A Behaviour Support Plan doesn't start with writing the plan.
First comes understanding.

Behaviour Support assessment can involve getting to know the participant, gathering information, working with the people around them and exploring what may be influencing behaviours.

That information helps inform strategies that reflect the individual's needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. The NDIS Commission's process similarly places assessment before the development of a comprehensive plan.

💡 Support Agency Tip: Your Behaviour Support Practitioner may ask lots of questions. The little details about routines, environments and what happens before and after a behaviour can be valuable.

📖 A Behaviour Support Plan can be detailed, evidence-informed and professionally written. But there's another question that matters just as much.

Can you actually use it in everyday life?
A useful plan should reflect the individual, contain practical strategies and help the people supporting them understand what to do in real situations.

Our latest Behaviour Support blog explores what makes a plan genuinely useful and some signs it might need another look.

Read Is Your NDIS Behaviour Support Plan Actually Useful in Real Life?
💡 Support Agency Tip: If your plan doesn't feel like it reflects you, or the people supporting you struggle to use it, speak with your Behaviour Support Practitioner.

💭 Behaviour Support isn't about labelling someone as "good" or "bad".

And it's not simply about making a behaviour disappear.

Positive Behaviour Support focuses on understanding the person, what may be contributing to a behaviour and what supports could improve their quality of life.

That change in perspective matters.

Instead of only asking "How do we stop this?", we can also ask:
"Why might this be happening, and what does this person need?"

💡 Support Agency Tip: Curiosity before correction. Understanding what's behind a behaviour can help us find more meaningful ways to support someone.

💚 Mental health looks different for everyone, and so can the support we need.
Sometimes support looks like talking.

Sometimes it's having someone listen without trying to fix everything.
Sometimes it's connection, routine, space, professional support or simply knowing someone is there.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we're reminding everyone to make room for conversations about mental health, not just today, but throughout the year.
And remember to check in with yourself too. 💚

🎵 "But I'm not musical!"

Good news. You don't need to be.

Music Therapy isn't a music lesson or performance. You don't need to know how to play an instrument, sing or read music.

A Registered Music Therapist uses music therapeutically in ways that suit the individual, their preferences and their goals. Support Agency's first-session guide also explains that activities may include instruments, rhythm, movement, songwriting, singing or simply listening, depending on the participant.

The goal isn't to become a musician. 💜
The goal is yours. Music is one of the tools used to work towards it.

💜 Behaviour can tell us something, even when words can't.

A behaviour may be connected to communication, discomfort, sensory needs, changes in routine, the environment or something else happening in the person's life.

Positive Behaviour Support looks beyond what happened to better understand why it may be happening and how the person can be supported. That's also how the NDIS Commission describes the purpose of Positive Behaviour Support.

💡 Support Agency Tip: Look beyond the behaviour itself. What happened before it? What changed? What might the person need?

📢 NDIS changes are coming from 1 October, but what does that actually mean for your plan?

The NDIA has confirmed reductions to some budgets within Social, Economic and Community Participation and Improved Daily Living Skills.

Importantly, this doesn't mean everyone's funding suddenly changes on 1 October.
The reductions begin when a new plan is approved or a plan is reassessed from 1 October 2026, and for plan renewals from 1 February 2027. Some supports are also excluded from these reductions.

💡 Support Agency Tip: Before worrying about something you've seen online, check whether the change actually applies to your plan and circumstances.

This BPD Awareness Week, we’re reminded that sometimes the way we respond to another person can matter more than we realise. 💜

The 2026 theme is “Connection Changes Outcomes: In BPD, Every Interaction Matters.”

For people living with Borderline Personality Disorder, feeling heard, understood and supported without judgement can make a meaningful difference.

It might look like listening without immediately trying to fix things.

Staying present when things feel difficult.

Being consistent.

Speaking with empathy.

And seeing the person beyond their diagnosis.

At Support Agency, we believe person-centred support starts with understanding the individual, their experiences, strengths, needs and goals.

This week is an opportunity to learn more, challenge stigma and remember that every interaction matters. 💜

Learn more about BPD Awareness Week at the official BPD Awareness website.

⏳ Still waiting for your NDIS review? You're not alone.

For many participants, waiting for a review can bring questions about what happens next, what it means for current supports and whether there's anything you should be doing in the meantime.

We've put together a practical guide explaining NDIS review delays in 2026, what they could mean for your plan and some steps you can take while you're waiting.

👉 Read:

💡 Support Agency Tip: Don't wait until your review to start organising information. Keeping reports, assessments, goal updates and notes about what's working throughout the year can make preparation much easier.
