For many of us, these are simple everyday routines. But for someone who needs a little extra help, they can mean so much more.

From 1 October 2026, changes to the Support at Home program means you no longer need to make personal contributions towards approved personal care services covered by your Support at Home funding.

One of our customers shared five simple but powerful words:
“𝙄𝙩 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣.”

Sometimes, it's the little things we take for granted that make the biggest difference to someone's life. We understand that personal care is deeply personal. It's about feeling safe, comfortable and respected while receiving the right support from people you trust.

🌏 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑶𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 2026 👵🏼👱🏻‍♀️🧓🏻

Today is a chance to reflect on what it really means to grow older and the kind of communities we want to grow older in.

This year’s theme, The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives, reminds us that ageing should never mean becoming less connected, less visible or less valued. It’s about living longer and living together in a shared community.

At BCD, supporting our customers to live their best life feels like being part of something bigger, helping people stay connected to family, community, culture and the things that bring them joy and purpose.

Because growing older shouldn’t mean stepping away from community. It should mean continuing to be part of it.

Behind every dementia diagnosis is a person, a family, a carer and a story.
This Dementia Action Week, we’re encouraging conversations that help people feel seen, heard and understood.

For someone living with dementia, being able to talk openly can mean being included in decisions, having the confidence to say what they need, and knowing people are still seeing the person, not just the diagnosis. And for carers, those conversations matter just as much.

Talking about dementia can create space to ask for help, share the difficult days, celebrate the good ones and feel a little less alone in a journey that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Because sometimes support starts with something very simple - a conversation.

Today, BCD was proud to be part of the Dying to Know Day, a big thank you to South Western Sydney PHN (SWSPHN) for hosting such a welcoming and informative event, and for creating a safe space for our community to talk openly about death, dying, grief and planning for the future.

Our three key takeaways from the day:
🔑 Start the conversation early
Talking about end-of-life wishes doesn’t need to be frightening. Open conversations can help families feel more prepared and supported.
🔑 Planning helps your voice be heard
Advance Care Planning, wills and other important documents can help ensure your choices, values and wishes are understood.
🔑 You don’t have to navigate it alone
There are many local services and professionals available to provide information, guidance and compassionate support.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to speak with the BCD team. It was wonderful connecting, learning and sharing resources with our local community.

🏡 Almost one month into the new NDIS SIL Practice Standards

Already being a registered NDIS provider before the 1 July changes, we have been able to focus on strengthening what good, safe and respectful SIL support looks like in everyday practice.

That means continuing to focus on:
✅ Listening to customers and supporting their decisions
✅ Helping people feel safe, respected and comfortable at home
✅ Providing skilled, consistent and well-managed support
✅ Clearly explaining housing, tenancy and support arrangements

As SIL registration becomes mandatory from October, we are proud to keep learning, improving and putting each customer’s voice and choices first.

💛 Meet Uncle Larry!

He is a valued member of the BCD community and a proud Aboriginal Elder with a deep connection to Dharawal Country.

He loves sharing stories, spending time with his family and grandchildren, going for drives around the Macarthur area and expressing his culture through art. 🎨🌿

We’re so grateful to Uncle Larry for sharing his knowledge, stories and culture with us, and for helping guide BCD’s Connection to Country Acknowledgement.
