I spent today at the University of Sydney teaching advanced anatomy to Plastic Surgery trainees preparing for their Fellowship exams.
People often assume surgeons stop studying once they qualify. The reality is quite the opposite.
The best surgeons never stop learning. Whether I’m teaching future specialists, attending conferences, or operating in theater, every opportunity to deepen my understanding ultimately benefits my patients.

In Australia, the title 'Surgeon' is protected.
This means that only those with specific surgical training and specialist registration can legally call themselves a surgeon.
This reform in 2023 aimed to address public confusion and patient harm from unqualified people using the 'cosmetic surgeon' title without specialist surgical training.
Who can legally use the title 'Plastic surgeon' in Australia? Only those who completed the Plastic surgery surgical training program of the Royal College of Surgeons and a hold specialist Plastic Surgeon registration with AHPRA.
