I had the privilege of contributing to the Myopia Mastery session as a speaker and panellist at the recent O-Show in Melbourne.
Myopia management is a field Iโm deeply care about through my work at Eyecare Kids. It was encouraging to sit down with practitioners, optical dispensers, and practice owners who share the same commitment to supporting young patients and their families early on.
Alongside Heidi Hunter and Jason Anderson, I spoke on myopia intervention updates, reviewing long-term studies available in Orthok, low dose atropine and myopia control lenses like MiYOSMART. Later in the morning, I joined a wonderful panel with Emmy Cui, Alison Abdullah, and Heidi Hunter to answer real-world case study questions from the room.
A few key takeaways from the session:
๐ Successful myopia control isn't just what happens in the consulting room. It relies on the entire practice teamโfrom lens fitting to family communication and follow-up care.
๐ Explaining progressive myopia to parents requires clarity and empathy. Finding the right vocabulary makes a huge difference in patient outcomes.
๐ Having the right biometry and diagnostic technology helps, but establishing consistent, repeatable care pathways is what turns evidence-based research into everyday clinical practice.
Thank you to Amanda Trotman, ODMA, and event sponsor HOYA for putting together a program focused on actionable clinical value. And thank you to everyone who attended and asked such thoughtful questions during the panel.
Itโs always a good reminder that when we share our clinical experiences, we elevate the standard of care for young patients across the whole profession.
