Depression isn't *just* a serotonin deficiency.
The old “chemical imbalance” story was never the point of the original science on this issue (so don't buy that old strawman toxic wellness stuff either), and of course is no longer even a good summary of the science.

Depression is understood as a multisystem condition involving inflammation, disrupted sleep architecture, cognitive fatigue, nervous system dysregulation, social disconnections *and* systemic factors such as oppression, violence, minority lived experience etc.

Medication can help and for many people it's necessary.
However, it was never the whole story, and relying only on medication can leave major drivers of suffering untouched - and unsupported.
