Some dates do not need a reminder from the calendar.

Mention them, and people remember where they were. The room. The phone call. The television. The person beside them. The ordinary thing they were doing moments before the world shifted.

September 11 is one of those dates.

It belongs first, of course, to those who died, those who survived, those who loved them, and those whose lives and health were altered by what happened that day. But it also belongs to that strange category of human memory where public history enters private time.

We all have moments like that, though not all of them make the newspapers.

The call from the doctor.
The birth of a child.
The death of a parent.
The day someone said yes.
The day someone said goodbye.
The morning something ordinary became the dividing line.

There was life before this.

Then this happened.

And here we are.

Perhaps remembrance is not only about looking back. Perhaps it is also about honouring the hinge, noticing what changed, and recognising the extraordinary human capacity to keep building a life after the world we knew has moved.
