Endometriosis can start as early as the teen years.

Most women and those presumed female at birth living with endometriosis say their period pain began in their teens or early 20s — often from their very first cycles.

Painful periods that interfere with school, sport, or daily life aren’t “just part of growing up.”

If you or someone you know is struggling with severe period pain, you’re not alone — and support is available. Find out more: https://bit.ly/4gIjNQJ

This year’s International Women’s Day theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” calls for collective action to unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all and a feminist future where no one is left behind.

RANZCOG has long been shining a spotlight on the significant systemic gender-gaps in healthcare – for both women and girls accessing care, as well as those providing it. From access and medical research gaps to financial disparities, bias, stigma, and systemic injustices, gender inequality permeates every aspect of our health system—affecting care, outcomes, and opportunities for women and health professionals alike.

Whilst today is a time to celebrate women in all their diversities and acknowledge the progress made, there is still a long road ahead. RANZCOG reaffirms its commitment to breaking down barriers, challenging inequities, and driving policies that support equal rights and health outcomes for ALL women and girls.

RANZCOG will continue advocating to make meaningful policy change towards equitable access to women’s health services across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Equity is firmly entrenched as a priority within the College’s strategic plan, and specifically tackling gender bias in care, research, systems and policy is a key objective for the College’s advocacy function.

From 3 February 2025, pregnant women will be offered a free Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccine to protect their newborns.

RSV can cause serious illness in newborn babies. It is recommended that pregnant women receive the vaccine at 28 weeks in pregnancy with the whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine, but it can be given anytime between 28 and 36 weeks.

Vaccines given in pregnancy will help your baby off to a healthy start in life.
