* 24 Months On Conference - Canberra ACT 2026 *

Two years after the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Su***de, the Pro Patria Centre held a conference in Canberra ACT to examine the evidence, assess real-world outcomes, and ask the question: "What is working, and how do we build on it?", building on the foundation of the '12 Months On Conference' in 2025

Our Clinical Psychologists Joe Alberts and Michelle Wotton, as well as our Jacqui Van de Velde as one of the organisers, attended the day to participate further through our already existing partnership as a Regional NSW Centre providing therapy to support veterans, first responders and their families.

Thank You for letting us be a part of the conversation to measure policy against progress.

It's that time of year again and we are approaching the HSC for our Year 12 Students across NSW. When we think about the results from their final exams and the meaning of success in life as a whole, it is helpful to have a reminder that qualities like resilience, empathy and creativity remain at the top of predictors for what it means to be successful, long term ...

In this powerful TED-Talk, Angela Lee Duckworth takes us through her journey of leaving a high-flying job in consulting to teach maths to Year 7 students in a school. During her time as a teacher, she learnt that the quality of 'grit' is a powerful predictor of sustainable success. Passion, perserverence and we also think 'purpose' are all contributors to what is means to be successful:

'Why Every Teenage Boy Needs a Positive Role Model'

For teenage boys, influence often works less through what we say and more through who they get to watch. Our Clinical Psychology Masters Student, Sam McKenzie spent six months working with young men in youth corrections.

The boys he worked with changed when they were around someone they genuinely respected and wanted to be like. The research on adolescent boys says exactly the same thing. Boys learn by watching, not by being told ...

The Gotcha4Life 24 Hour Row was a couple weekends ago and our very own Practice Manager here at The Resilience Centre was a part of the action at the Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club, where she is a Patrol Captain also.

When we give our time and effort to support others in their mental health journey, it is more than a job. Factors like community, friends and skills all contribute to building a resilient life.

We were proud to support Marieclare in her commitment to the Gotcha4Life annual nationwide team relay event in Australia that raises funds and awareness for mental health.

Australians love an underdog story and yesterday's Knights victory in the NRL against the Panthers is just this. A year ago, they were the wooden spooners of 2025 and now they are a real possibility for the premiership of 2026.

We see how the success of the Knights, after years of continuous losses, is embedded in the strengths of its community across the region; the embodiment of the hard working nature of the Newcastle/Hunter people and population.

With the support of all their fans to overcome challenges over the years, what looks like a fairytale on the outside is a story of strength, community and determination - a testament to the of the club and the spirit of sport in Australia:

HSC Podcast - 'The ATAR and Beyond: Real Skills for Real Life'

It is that time of year again and the HSC is fast upon us … and we revisit our timely podcast about the ‘HSC and the ATAR’. All too often, the HSC is a stressful time for students and for their parents and families also.

In this podcast, we hear from Clinical Psychologists – Dr Mathew Pfeiffer and Michelle Wotton from The Resilience Centre as they shed light on the difference between ‘ambition’ and ‘perfectionism’, when it comes to working towards a goal.

They bring a wealth of experience and a passion for helping students and their families to do the whole HSC experience (and not just during, but importantly life afterwards) 'well'. Don't miss this important conversation:
