Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference🧡

Feeling heard, having choice and control, and being supported to do the things you love.

From 1 October 2026, changes to some NDIS support budgets will begin rolling out.

The changes affect Social, Economic and Community Participation supports and Improved Daily Living Skills supports - but they won’t affect everyone at once, and other parts of participants’ plans are not affected by this funding reset.

If your current plan isn’t changing yet, you can continue using your current plan and supports. The NDIA will contact participants ahead of scheduled reassessments or renewals.

We’ve broken down what’s changing, when it could affect you and some of the safeguards in place.

For more information, read our full guide here 👉 https://mable.com.au/newsroom/ndis-support-budget-changes-1-oct/

This information is general in nature and is based on information available as of 1 October 2026. NDIS information and processes may change over time.

Good dementia support is about more than getting things done. It starts with the person. 🧡

This Dementia Action Week, we’re recognising the importance of supporting people living with dementia in ways that respect their individuality, dignity, choice and independence.

Janine and Jennifer, independent support workers on Mable with experience in dementia support, share some of what they’ve learned through their work, from slowing down and following someone’s pace to noticing how they’re feeling in the moment and being ready to adapt.

Because every person living with dementia is different, and good support should reflect the person, what matters to them and how they want to live.

Join us at Housing Hub’s Disruptive Ideas in Disability Housing event in Melbourne on 6 October.🧡

The event puts people with disability and lived experience at the centre of the conversation, exploring what’s working, what isn’t and what could be done differently when it comes to housing and support.

Mable’s Individualised Living Program Manager, Libby Ellis, will join Mable clients Michael and Susan for 'A home that fits the person' - a panel exploring what it really takes to create a home and support that works around the person, their choices and the life they want to live.

Tickets are still available, including $29 tickets for people with disability, families and supporters. Livestream tickets are also available if you can’t make it to Melbourne.

Got an idea that could make a difference in your community? 🧡

There’s still time to apply for a $10,000 Mable Community Grant, with applications closing 30 September 2026.

If your community group, sporting group, charity or not-for-profit organisation has a project or initiative that directly improves the lives of people with disability or older people, we want to hear from you.

Four $10,000 grants are available to support projects that champion greater independence and inclusion in the community.

Pictured is Alysha McKenzie, Founder and Managing Director of Don’t Forget My Pet and one of our 2025 grant recipients. Alysha received funding to help provide more than 5,000 pet meals to older people, helping them continue caring for their much-loved pets 🐾

Thinking of applying? Before submitting your application, please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions carefully. They include important information about eligibility and what grant funding can and can’t be used for.

Sometimes, the people you support can teach you just as much as you give them🧡

For independent support worker Helen, one of the biggest things her client Sue has taught her is the value of people.

It’s something Helen brings into her everyday practice supporting older Australians: taking the time to listen, understand what matters to each person and build genuine connections.

We recently spoke with Helen to hear more about supporting Sue, what she’s learnt along the way and the advice she’d give to other independent support workers working in aged care.
