🧠 MIGRAINE AWARENESS WEEK. HOW CAN PHYSIO HELP?
This week, we’re supporting the Australian Physiotherapy Association’s campaign to raise awareness of migraine and the impact it can have on everyday life.
Migraine is more than “just a headache”. Symptoms can include significant head pain, nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, dizziness and visual disturbances and for some people, neck pain can also be part of the picture.
While physiotherapy isn’t a cure for migraine, it may form part of a broader management approach, particularly when there is an associated neck or musculoskeletal component.
A physiotherapy assessment may look at: • Cervical spine movement and function
• Neck and upper-back muscle strength and endurance
• Headache triggers and contributing musculoskeletal factors
• Exercise and physical activity
• Strategies to manage associated neck pain and stiffness
Importantly, headaches can have many different causes. A thorough assessment can help determine whether physiotherapy is appropriate and when further medical assessment or referral is required.
At TPL, we take an individualised approach to headache and migraine presentations, helping you better understand your symptoms and identify the right management pathway.
