Would your child eat one marshmallow now, or wait to get two later?
The famous Marshmallow Experiment explored inhibition and delayed gratification. Children who can pause, wait, and resist an immediate reward often demonstrate stronger self-regulation, social skills, learning readiness, and participation in everyday activities as they grow.
For children with ADHD, waiting can be particularly challenging. The good news? Inhibition is a skill that can be developed. Through practice, the right strategies, and support, children can learn to slow down, think before acting, and make more thoughtful choices. Strengthening these skills can support success in learning, friendships, and everyday life.
