Can your child see their phone clearly—but struggle to see the board at school?
They may have myopia (short-sightedness).
Myopia often begins in childhood and can make distant objects such as classroom boards, road signs and faces appear blurry, while close-up vision remains clear.
🔍 Signs to look out for:
• Blurred distance vision
• Squinting to see clearly
• Eye strain or headaches
• Difficulty seeing the board or signs
⚠️ Things that can increase the risk:
• Family history of myopia
• Lots of close-up work
• Prolonged screen time
• Not spending enough time outdoors
👓 There are ways to manage myopia, including prescription glasses, contact lenses, Ortho-K and myopia control lenses where appropriate.
🌿 Simple habits can also help:
☀️ Aim for at least 2 hours outdoors each day
👀 Follow the 20-20-20 rule
📖 Keep a healthy reading distance
💻 Take regular breaks from screens
