Are these exercise mistakes holding you back? 👀

Small habits in your workout can make a big difference to how well you move, progress, and recover.
Some of the most common mistakes we see include:

❌ Going too heavy too soon
If your form breaks down, the weight may be too much for now.

❌ Rushing through reps
Slowing down can help improve control and movement quality.

❌ Skipping warm-ups
Your body needs time to prepare before training.

❌ Poor breathing
Breathing and bracing well can help with control, tension, and stability.

❌ Ignoring pain
Muscle fatigue is normal, but sharp or worsening pain should not be pushed through.

Better exercise is not always about doing more, it’s about doing things well.

FRIDAY CHALLENGE: EYEBALLING 👀
Senior Physio vs Non-senior Physio.

We put Charles and Suzy to the test to see if experience makes a difference when estimating joint angles by eye.

While eyeballing can give us a rough idea, it is not always accurate or reliable. That’s why tools like goniometers, inclinometers, and the ActivForce2 help us measure joint movement more objectively.

Objective measurements allow us to better assess mobility, track progress, and guide rehab more accurately over time.

A fun little challenge in the clinic while showcasing how technology can help us measure clinical progress 💪

Save this warm-up before your next workout 🔥

A good warm-up is not just about stretching, it should prepare your body for the movements you’re about to do.

Before training, try including:

✅ Light cardio
To increase blood flow and gradually raise your heart rate.
✅ Dynamic mobility
To move your joints through the ranges you’ll be using.
✅ Activation exercises
To wake up key muscles and improve control before loading.
✅ Movement-specific warm-up
To practise a lighter version of your workout movement before increasing intensity.

Whether you’re lifting, running, or doing a class, warming up properly can help improve movement quality and prepare your body for exercise.

Save this for your next workout 💪

Tightness doesn't always mean you need to stretch.

If you're constantly stretching your neck, shoulders, hips, or hamstrings but the tightness keeps coming back, the problem may not be flexibility.

In many cases, muscles become tight because they're trying to provide stability where strength or control is lacking.

Before reaching for another stretch, it may be worth asking:
👉 Does my body need more strength instead?

The 4-Stage Balance Test is a simple assessment used to screen balance and falls risk.

One important finding:
If someone is unable to hold the tandem stance (heel-to-toe position) for 10 seconds, it may indicate an increased risk of falls.

The good news? Balance can often be improved with the right training 💪

If you or a loved one have noticed reduced balance, dizziness, or fear of falling, early assessment can make a big difference.
