THERAPY THURSDAY: Children communicating while drawing

Some children communicate better while drawing.

For some children, sitting face-to-face and talking can feel overwhelming. Drawing alongside a therapist can reduce pressure and help thoughts and feelings flow more naturally.

Often, children begin sharing important experiences while their hands are busy creating. Sometimes their drawings are also important to express what it's like for them.

Team Tuesday with Aya!

Meet Aya outside the therapy room.

Outside of work, Aya enjoys relaxing with video games.

Gaming can be a fantastic way to unwind, challenge your brain and connect with friends—something many of the young people we work with also enjoy talking about!

🎮 What's your favourite game to play?

Fun Friday: About the Wow! Factor

We work hard to create the Wow! Factor here at the practice.

It's the little things that matter in all our rooms. One of the favourite things in our waiting room is our beautiful aquarium. We've lost count how many children (and adults!) stop to watch the fish while they wait.

It's such a great ice-breaker for children who feel nervous about coming for the first time. You would be amazed about the different names our fish have! And the stories children create about the fish.

Watching fish swim quietly can be surprisingly calming, giving everyone a chance to slow down before their appointment. Parents who wait for their child in their appointment also tell us how much they love watching the fish.

What do you love about coming to our practice?

Team Tuesday with Sara

Meet Sara outside the therapy room.

When she has free time, Sara enjoys spending time in nature and tending her growing collection of indoor plants.

Looking after plants is a wonderful reminder that growth takes time, patience and a little care—much like people.

🌿 Are you a proud plant parent? We'd love to see your favourite indoor plant! Send us a pic or tell us about your plants in the comments.

🌿 International Self-Care Day 💚

Today is International Self-Care Day, but why stop at just one day?

Let's make it a Self-Care Weekend!

Self-care doesn't have to be expensive or time-consuming. Sometimes it's the little things that help us recharge.

✨ Go for a walk.
☕ Enjoy a quiet cuppa.
📖 Read a few pages of a book.
🌳 Spend some time outdoors.
📱 Take a break from social media.
🎨 Do something that brings you joy.
💛 Connect with someone you care about.
😴 Get some extra rest.
🤝 Remember that asking for support is a sign of strength.

For parents and carers, self-care can sometimes feel impossible. But even five minutes spent looking after yourself can make a difference. Looking after yourself isn't selfish—it's one of the best ways to keep supporting the people we love.

At Sara Balmer Psychology for Kids, we encourage all parents, carers and adults to be kind to themselves this weekend.

💚 You can't pour from an empty cup.

Wishing you a weekend filled with rest, kindness and a few moments just for you.

Here are 5 simple ideas to include in your space:
💙 A teepee or tent with cushions and blankets
💛 Gentle, warm lighting
💚 A private spot away from foot traffic
💜 Quiet options like headphones
🧡 Posters and books about emotions (or even yoga posters for movement breaks!)
