A ketogenic diet can feel like a BIG change - and I completely understand why so many families feel overwhelmed by the idea.
I’ve had a number of families come to me wanting to explore ketogenic dietary therapy to support their child’s epilepsy, but feeling unsure about what that actually looks like day-to-day.
Having personally followed both keto and a modified Atkins approach, I know it isn’t always easy or realistic to jump straight into a strict ketogenic diet.
Sometimes, we can start by simply looking at how we can make meals more low-glycaemic.
That might look like:
✨ Including protein with every meal
✨ Looking at the type and amount of carbohydrates being eaten
✨ Exploring resistant starches, including cooked and cooled potato or rice
✨ Choosing options such as sweet potato
✨ Pairing carbohydrates with protein, fats and fibre
Remember, it doesn’t always have to be all or nothing.
