The Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol & other Drugs (APSAD) is the Asia Pacific's leading multidisciplinary organisation for professionals involved in the alcohol and other drug field. APSAD is dedicated to increasing the profile of the issues related to the use of alcohol and other drugs, through the dissemination of information from the wide range of professions involved in this field

. In addition, we strive to promote improved standards in clinical practice and in research into this and allied subjects. It also provides a network of drug and alcohol professionals in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific. Through its internationally recognised scientific journal, the Drug and Alcohol Review, and its annual Scientific Conference, APSAD provides a forum for the latest research on the nature, prevention and treatment of physical, psychological and social problems related to the use of psychoactive substances. APSAD is dedicated to:

promoting evidence-based improvements in the treatment and prevention of drug and alcohol-related problems
raising awareness about the problems related to the use of alcohol and other drugs
promoting best standards in research in the drug and alcohol field
providing development and support to professionals working in the drug and alcohol field. ACTIVITIES

APSAD offers various forms of professional development for health professionals. Subscription to the Society's scientific journal, the Drug and Alcohol Review. Discounted registration to the Annual APSAD Scientific Conference. Discounted registration at selected AOD conferences including the DANA conference
Subscription to the APSAD e-newsletter
APSAD offers a range of other activities for members. A conference is held annually, with this year's conference scheduled to take place in Sydney 30 October - 2 November. Regional conferences and workshops are also supported, often jointly with other professional organisations. APSAD also produces a bi-monthly newsletter, to keep members up-to- date and provide a forum for discussion. The Drug and Alcohol Review is the Society's official journal. Celebrating its 34th year of publication, the journal is listed on the international database, Medline. Published bi-monthly as of 2005, the Review presents original research, policy development and information in the drug and alcohol research field.

The Drug and Alcohol Review (DAR) Editorial Board would like to announce some recent changes. After 18 years, Professor Robin Room has stepped down as Editor-in-Chief but is remaining on the Board as a Senior Editor. Robin has been an amazing ambassador for the journal and shown his commitment for the academic process. Robin has been a great leader and asset for DAR, with the journal (and publishing in general) changing fundamentally during his tenure.

Professor Paul Dietze has taken over as Editor-in-Chief of DAR – a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding contributions to the journal and to the field. Paul is one of Australia's leading alcohol and other drug epidemiologists, with more than 20 years' experience and an exceptional research record. He is Director of the Behaviours and Health Risks Program at the Burnet Institute and holds a joint appointment at the National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) (Curtin University). He previously served as Deputy Editor and has been the Executive Editor of DAR since March 2014.

Please join us in thanking Robin and congratulating Paul on his new appointment – we look forward to the journal continuing to go from strength to strength in the future.
