The supplement industry is worth billions. But the most effective thing most people can do for their health doesn’t come in a tub.

Before chasing the next product, it’s worth asking whether the basics are actually covered - protein, whole foods, consistency, and a diet that genuinely supports your goals.

Our Dietitian, Hannah Payne | Sports Dietitian, at SWSM work with athletes and everyday patients to cut through the noise and build a nutrition foundation that actually moves the needle. Book in with Hannah today.

Say hello to Kyna, the newest physiotherapist to join the team at West HQ.

With an undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sport Science and a freshly completed Doctor of Physiotherapy, Kyna is starting her career in private practice after years of placements and study. Sport has always been a big part of her life, and she’s spent the past few years working as a sports trainer across soccer, rugby union, AFL and netball. That sideline experience means she understands what active people need from their physio, whether you’re nursing a niggle, recovering from an injury, or trying to get back to the sport you love.

Book with Kyna at swsm.com.au or call 1300 13 SWSM.

October is National Safe Work Month. And it’s a good time to be honest about something:

Workplace injuries don’t just happen on construction sites or in warehouses. They happen at desks, in vehicles, in retail environments, and in the trades - often over weeks and months before they become something that puts you out of work.

At SWSM, we work with injured workers at every stage; from early intervention through to full return to work, alongside our occupational health physicians and allied health team.

If you or your employer would like to discuss occupational health services, reach out to us at [email protected].

Last month we celebrated World Exercise Physiology Day. This month, we’re showing you the numbers that prove why.

New national research from Deloitte Australia Access Economics found that every $1 spent on an Exercise Physiologist returns $2.50, a $1.09 billion net benefit over three years.

October is Mental Health Month - and it feels like the right moment to say something that often gets left out of the clinical conversation around injury.

There is a well-documented, bidirectional relationship between sports injuries and mental health. Injury affects psychological wellbeing. And the state of a patient’s mental health directly influences recovery trajectory, rehabilitation adherence, and re-injury risk.

A 2024 systematic review across 25 studies confirmed it. Research published in 2026 found significantly elevated rates of depression and anxiety in injured athletes aged 10–19. Studies of Australian professional footballers found recent injury was directly associated with higher rates of psychological distress.

At SWSM, our Sports Psychology service works alongside Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology. Not as a downstream referral, but as an active part of the recovery team from the outset.

We’ve published a full clinical article on the topic this month - head to swsm.com.au to read.

Two months in and Kieran is already a familiar face at West HQ.

As an Exercise Physiologist, Kieran works with patients on progressive rehab and supervised exercise; the kind of structured, individually prescribed work that bridges the gap between injury and getting back to full capacity.

Whether you’re post-surgery, managing a chronic condition, or just ready to stop guessing and start progressing - this is where that happens.

Book with Kieran at swsm.com.au or call 1300 13 SWSM.

The final siren sounded weeks ago. But the niggles from a long winter season? They don’t clock off just because the competition did.

The off-season is the most important window of the year for your body, and most athletes either do too little or jump straight back into training before they’ve done the work that actually matters.

To find out more about what you can be doing this off-season, head to swsm.com.au for the full blog post.
