When your child has a meltdown, it’s not misbehaviour, it’s communication.
Many parents tell me how overwhelmed and helpless they feel in those moments. The truth is, meltdowns are often a sign of sensory overload, especially for autistic children or children with sensory processing differences.

When we begin to understand meltdowns through a sensory lens, something shifts.
- Blame softens.
- Connection deepens.

And we start to see what our children have been trying to tell us all along:

“This is too much for me. Please help me feel safe.”

I’ve written a gentle and practical blog to help you understand:

- why meltdowns happen
- how co-regulation calms the nervous system
- how music therapy supports sensory processing and emotional regulation

If your child struggles with big feelings or sensory overwhelm, this will give you clarity and hope.

And if you feel your child would benefit from music therapy support, you’re welcome to reach out or book a session anytime.
Your child’s nervous system deserves safety, rhythm, and connection and you don’t have to navigate this alone.

Learn why your child’s meltdowns aren’t misbehaviour but a sign of sensory overload. Discover how sensory processing, co-regulation, and music therapy support autistic children and improve emotional regulation.

When words aren’t enough, music becomes their voice.

Children often feel big emotions long before they have the words to express them. Through rhythm, melody, and play, music therapy helps them calm, connect, and communicate in ways that feel natural and safe.

At Voices of Heaven™, every session supports children to develop emotional awareness, self-regulation, and confidence — one beat at a time.

It’s about how Guided Imagery & Music (GIM) can unlock creativity, bring healing, and give voice to feelings that are hard to express.

I’m so excited to share our latest blog post:

“How Music Therapy Helps Children with Autism Connect and Thrive” 🎶

In this post, I share a personal story from nearly two decades ago about a teenager with autism traits and an intellectual disability who found his voice through music. What unfolded was nothing short of inspiring from being told he would never “amount to much,” to bringing his grandmother to tears at his very first piano concert.

Music truly has the power to unlock connection, confidence, and joy where words sometimes cannot.

At Voices of Heaven™, our heart is to help little hearts feel, express, and connect.

Nearly two decades ago, when I was in my final year of completing my Master of Creative Music Therapy degree, I met and worked with a teenage boy who would change the way I understood the power of music forever. He was my very first music therapy client and I would never forget the time […]

Music therapy is still NDIS funded support.

Important reminder: the way music therapy is treated under the NDIS has not changed.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) was very clear in its statement:

"Any proposed changes will not come into force until the review is completed and the relevant findings are considered."

So, although the Independent Review of Appropriate NDIS Pricing for Music and Art Supports continues, music therapy remains an NDIS-funded therapy.

Plan managers should continue to pay for music therapy as usual.

NDIS participants can continue to access music therapy from any registered music therapist who is a member of AMTA.
