Emily is BACK and we couldn't be more excited! Emily Dailly (Clinical Psychologist) is returning after her recent mat leave to once again offer the Hawkesbury community her exceptional level of care and expertise. Emily works predominantly with children, including support for parents of children with emotional, behavioural or neurodevelopmental issues. She is Cool Kids accredited for children and adolescents. She is hugely popular and kids adore coming to her sessions! She is available Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11am-6pm (you read that right- she has AFTER SCHOOL appointments available!) from our Richmond office. Did you know that narcissism isn’t all or nothing?

We all have narcissistic traits — the capacity for self-focus, pride, and the desire to feel special.
In its healthy form, narcissism helps us believe in ourselves and take up space.

It becomes a problem when self-worth depends entirely on admiration or control, when empathy fades, and when relationships turn into mirrors instead of connections.

At its extreme — when these patterns are rigid, persistent, and cause real harm — it can meet the criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).
But most of the time, what we’re seeing in others (and in ourselves) are traits, not a personality disorder.

We hear so much about what ADHD is online and it is leading to self-diagnosis, overdiagnosis, and misdiagnosis. Sometimes it's worth asking "what else could be going on?"

Did you know that the symptoms that look like ADHD are also often present in other disorders like anxiety and trauma? Therefore, diagnosing ADHD requires more than just checking off a list. Professionals will conduct in-depth interviews with you and a close person, administer standardised questionnaires, and sometimes conduct cognitive assessments.

Tech overload can also mimic ADHD-like symptoms and it's becoming more common as our devices are integrated into every aspect of life. For example, social media and gaming are hijacking our brain reward system and we are becoming accustomed to fast rewards. We can also experience time blindness when using tech, similar to ADHD's time management struggles.

Social expectations and pressures can create ADHD-like challenges like scattered attention, fatigue, and procrastination because we're being asked to do more than what's reasonable for anyone. Be careful of the hustle culture and the expectation to be constantly available, reachable and online!
