Getting sick twice in two weeks is pretty unusual for me 🤒
It was also a good reminder of something I talk about with patients regularly…
People often want to know the cause of an injury or why they’re suddenly getting sore. But most of the time, it’s not one thing.
Maybe sleep has been off.
Work’s been stressful or you’re putting in extra hours.
Nutrition hasn’t been great.
Training’s still been hard.
Life’s been crazy.
Individually, none of those are a huge deal. But when they all start stacking up, your body’s ability to recover starts to drop.
That’s when you start picking up the random cold.
That shoulder starts niggling.
Your Achilles flares up.
Your back gets tight.
It’s usually not bad luck. It’s the accumulation of a lot of small things.
Before chasing the next rehab exercise or recovery tool, it’s worth asking whether you’ve actually got the big rocks covered first 🪨
Sleep. Nutrition. Stress. Training load.
They’re not the sexy part of recovery, but they’re usually the part that moves the needle the most 🧠
